    I wish I knew. I send the audio into Amadeus and did a straight export as AIFFs (though at 41KHZ rather than 48), and that seemed to do the trick. Though I have no idea why – there’s no reason why After Effects should have trouble with 48. And like I said, the original clips played just fine in RAM preview. So…weird. But solved, at least.

    Nope, it’s enabled, has a custom template and everything.

    It looks like the problem was with the audio files – even though they’re playing in RAM preview, I expanded them in the comp and saw that there were no waveforms. I have no idea what THAT was about, but I converted the files and now they’re fine. Go figure.
