Hi Andrew
Do you think this display driver issue is common to both the a8n32 aswell as the k8we opteron? I thought the k8we was way different as it had two pci-express chipsets.thanks

Hi gene
When you were working on your a8n32 (with MBE)were you getting the same driver error where if you went into display properties, windows would say that its drivers were writen for an earlier version of windows and that it would set its display to default vga. Is that what you were getting?I’m just trying to see if both our boards were trying to do the same thing ith mbe installed.
(seems like the pci-e chipset doesnt know how to use the 4lane pci-e and the 16x graphics at the same time.thanks

Hi Oliver
We have been trying to get this sucker too work with any drivers! We have the 5.6 drivers in winxp 32 and we have had no luck with the either the x1900xt and today we tried to get a quadro fx to work and didnt have any luck. We tried an ancient pci graphics card aswell that still didnt work either. We are going to try another motherboard made by msi which is very similar to a8n32 but without the sli. Will let you know how that goes. When you had it working did you definatly check that the graphics card drivers were installed correctly(with video desktop)? We got ours working in the programes but display properties in windows kept saying this display driver was written for an earlier version of windows.
It would definatly be good if this a8n32 motherboard would work, but I think anything that takes this much effort to install must be highly unreliable for doing high def editing. All our components are certified but they dont work properly.
thanks

Hi Oliver
Hey read our thread a few posts down. Unfortunatly for us and you it looks the a8nsli motherboard is not going to let the disply driver work. Did you get it to work with earlier mbe drivers? We were able to run the mbe in premiere AE7 combustion and photoshop….But the only way we could do this was by letting the graphics card(asus x1900xt) set itself to vga mode only. Gene has suggested that the only way he was able to get it working was to use a pci graphics card with nothing on the pci-express but the mbe. What has tech support said to you?

Hi Gene
Did you ever check out the asus A8n-e it has no sli ,still has nvidia nforce4 chipset. Looks like its the same as the a8n32 but with out the sli bit.
What do you reconthanks

Hi Gene
Yes tech support have been great but they dont seem to have ever heard of this problem. I asked them to recommend a more reliable graphics card than the asus x1900xt9 (that we have) and they said that it was fully supported. Maybe when they tested the a8n32 for compatability they were using the pci-e decklink dh and not the multibridge extreme, maybe they are a lot different even though they both connect into the 4lane pcie slot. Our computer is at the computer shop that built it at the moment maybe we should try a regular pci graphics card tomorrow and see what that is like.
The k8we with 254 processors and ram worked out to cost more than a quad g5 with 4gb ram. We have never been mac users but it sounds to us like it would be cheaper to buy a new g5. Especially if the k8we onboard raid performance needs to be beafed up externally. which is another reason why we thought we would stay pc.
Did you ever have any other success with other chipsets on other motherboards?
thanks

Hi Gene
I just read your other posts about the a8n32 ….I tracked them down.Hey it was cool hearing your thoughts about the adobe video suite being great, we thought it had come ahead leaps and bounds from previous versions as well!
So if we rip out and send back the pci-express graphics card and put in a regular pci graphics card would you have any recomendation of any pci models? I dont think you can get an ati x series or nvideo nvs series in regular pci. Also would the onboard sata(nvidia) still be fine to use as we are getting about 210mb/sec out of it which was better than we had imagened.
The multibridge was playing back in premier/ae/combustion fine it just said the “graphics adaptor drivers were designed for an earlier version of xp” message when we went into the graphics settings.
I guess we cant put our 4800+ cpu in a k8we…Right?
Thanks

Hi Gene
ouch…..! Ok that explains why every graphics card we put in it does exactly the same thing.( major graphics incompatability) Thanks for clearing that up. I looked all over this forum for info on this motherboard…. were your posts longer than 4 months old?So what did you end up doing?
Is there any motherboards you could recomend that could take our amd4800+ cpu and the multibridge(4lane pci-e)? I guess the graphics performance in after effects would suffer using a “pci” graphics card. So is it just sli boards or is it pci express graphics cards?
Sorry about all the questions but tech support don’t seem to think there should be an issue with our setup.
Thanks heaps…. now we know what direction we need to look in for solving our problem.
