Vegas does not supported mkv, so you need to remux mkv to mp4.
I’ve never done it myself, but I pretty sure that there are many tools that you can use it. Some of them are free. This one, for example:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools/MkvToMp4

P.S. remux != re-encode. remuxing is fast process and the quality of video/audio streams is not changed.

April 20, 2014 at 12:51 am in reply to: Yes, Sony Vegas Pro 13 is Here!

I tried to find at least one new feature in Vegas 13 that would be useful for me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. No reasons to upgrade for me. Will continue to use Vegas 12 Pro.

  • Since video editing had became my hobby I updated my video card twice. Every time I dug Neat Video support forum for the information about video card’s speed in Neat Video (I use Neat Video plugin quite a lot time).

I bet that was not the last time when I upgraded my video card, so I decided to spend some time and make easy tool where people will be able to post their results. So it will be easy to compare different video cards’ speed in Neat Video. This tool could be usable not just for me, but for other Neat Video users as well.

P.S. It did not take much time as I am web developer.

February 21, 2014 at 4:20 am in reply to: Handbrake Question

All my home videos I render into MP4 1080-50p (I have the same footage from my camcorder). Quite often the render takes a lot of time as I use neatvideo and others resources hungry plugins.

My relatives likes to watch my home videos so I share videos using dropbox-like file sharing services (no youtube etc as the quality is sux after real HD). So I transcode my 1080-50p into 720-50p with 10Mbps bitrate before sharing. I use Handbrake for transcoding as it is really fast and easy (drag&drop file into Handbrake, choose pre-defined profile, Go, and voilа).
Render from Vegas into different size/framerate is a bit overkill, imho. Also, it means that I have to keep all sources and projects (I do not keep them).

P.S. For rendering my results I do not use Sony AVC or Mainconcept AVC codecs. I render it using Debugmode frameserver + MeGUI (x264).

Have you tried to use Sync Link?

I haven’t used it myself but I read in the Vegas Pro manual about it and for me it looks like perfect tool for your task.

Could you please install MediaInfo program and show its outputs for your source footage and for resulting video.

Also, show your project’s settings if you change it.

March 25, 2013 at 10:24 am in reply to: when I stabilize it changes project size?

I use stabilisation very often (now with Mercalli, but I used to use Sony Stabilizer as well) and it does not change the project’s resolution.

By the nature of stabilisation the resolution is decreased but the stabilizer upscales result to project’s resolution automatically.
Have you checked your project’s settings?

  • For selecting an event without moving cursor I put mouse pointer over the event and… RIGHT click it then press Esc 🙂

Nigel, something wrong with your account.
I’m from AU as well, in my profile the country is AU and I still see discount when I click the link “Buy Now” in My Software.

  • CPU Throttling?
Check CPU info while Vegas running with CPU-Z.
Check your CPU Cooler and Heatsink.
