  • selecting an event AND giving it focus WITHOUT having to mouse click

Something has been irritating me for a while now and it is getting in the way of my productivity.

Often a take the time to accurately locate the cursor to where I want to split the event (or trim it). Then I realise that event is not currently selected, so I can’t simply invoke the split or trim command (‘S’ or Alt-[, Alt-] ).

It seems the only way I can get the job done is to reach for the mouse and click on the clip. In addition to that being annoying, it MOVES MY CURSOR and I have to go through the process of relocating it again, or I have to waste time fixing up any inaccuracies.

I went through the keyboard shortcuts looking for a way to alleviate the problem, but nothing jumps out as being helpful.

    Any ideas?

Sorry to be so full of complaints, but it’s also very irritating that the timeline does not get focus when even if you use keyboard shortcuts to do something in it (for example using arrow keys with modifiers to navigate the timeline).

Again, it seems you have to use your mouse.

the tab key doesn’t seem to work.

Here is the list of keyboard commands:

A workaround to not move the cursor position is to hold down CTRL as you click the event, although you have to CTRL click the previous selected event to unselect it. I just tried this and it left the cursor in the same position to split the event.

For selecting an event without moving cursor I put mouse pointer over the event and… RIGHT click it then press Esc 🙂

Another good trick. Never thought of that.

    Cheers.
