Many thanks for your quick reply. The “Too bad…” attitude came across during a phone call to tech support. I was opening the CS3 project and had two problems. The first was a *.vob” file created by CS3 that is incompatible with CS4 and the second was the single line video/audio track in the timeline.

He told me to reinstall CS3 and export the project from CS3 as an EDL file (not possible as I had discarded the old dics).

The VOB file can be recovered from the original DVD and double-clicking the sequence restores everything. You da man! I don’t know why it didn’t work that way the first time and no idea why tech sup didn’t steer me the way you did.
