  • Opening CS3 project in CS4

    Hi Gang

I created an in-house video with lots of edits and video tracks (PinP, etc.) using CS3. We want to update this video and I have since upgraded to CS4 (big mistake, I think). When I open the CS3 project file in CS4, all the assets come in but the timeline shows only one video track and none of the edits are visible.

Adobe says that “…this is a known issue…” and “So sad, too bad”

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

[Mike Venables] “Adobe says that “…this is a known issue…” and “So sad, too bad””

They do? Can you post a link to that, I would really like to see it.

To open your original sequences, double-click on the sequence name in the Project Panel and it will open in the Timeline Panel.

    Cheers

    Hi Eddie

Many thanks for your quick reply. The “Too bad…” attitude came across during a phone call to tech support. I was opening the CS3 project and had two problems. The first was a *.vob” file created by CS3 that is incompatible with CS4 and the second was the single line video/audio track in the timeline.

He told me to reinstall CS3 and export the project from CS3 as an EDL file (not possible as I had discarded the old dics).

The VOB file can be recovered from the original DVD and double-clicking the sequence restores everything. You da man! I don’t know why it didn’t work that way the first time and no idea why tech sup didn’t steer me the way you did.

    Many thanks again.

    Cheers

    Mike

[Mike Venables] “no idea why tech sup didn’t steer me the way you did.”

First level support is not usually very good. If you don’t get anywhere with them then demand to get escalated. I don’t know if it will work, but it’s worth trying. 😉

    Glad you got it sorted.

    Happy editing.

    Cheers
