  • Some issues arise from the Novell networking software installed on servers and clients within the CAN (Campus Area Network). CAN administrators configure the network to do many things to insure smooth function of the network, including protection from things like virus and students mucking with the computers with their own programs, spyware and clogging drives with trash…hence the digital janitor.
Slow, non-dedicated servers compound the problem by not delivering the data anywhere fast enough for video editing.
Most post houses use networks, but only as very fast storage for media. No software other than Windows XP and no administrators!. Very fast Raid arrays of SCSI or SATA drives that can deliver data to everyone in the house in a timely fashion.

A lot of folks use PS with Premiere without issue. Folks with 3rd party hardware (Matrox, Decklink, AJA have all kinds of quirks. What version of Photoshop are you using? Email me one of your .psd’s for a test…velte@cox.net…

I teach Premiere in a network server enviournemnt and it is impossible to use. Premiere’s authentication is stored in the user profile and that is wiped clean daily, requiring reinstall. The server wont deliver data in a timely fashion, playback was dicey. External devices are only recognized after a reboot. My Documents are wiped clean with every reboot. Crashes occur when the server polls each station. Virus scanning software bogs things down…the list goes on and on.

I had to get removable drives with XP only ghosted and no network software or connection.

2.0 is the first version that includes DVD authoring. Both 1.5 and 2.0 can create mpeg 2 files, but 1.5 will require an authoring app like Encore to create the special files that make a video DVD.

Pro 2.0 has the AE effect Write On. Just apply it to a transparent layer (File>New>Transparent video).

Mpeg 1 video files burned to a DVD disc wont play on many/most DVD players…it is not DVD specs. Many players will play non-spec files such as Jpeg, .wmv, .wma, mp3 and others but this will vary by player.

  • Try opening a new project and importing the damaged project into it.
