Can i muscle in on this thread cos it sounds like you guys will be able to help me out here.
i am running FCP 5.4.1, Kona LH and a JVC BR-HD50.
My issues is that i don’t have any deck control at all over RS422. I know the deck works fine, cos i have checked it with other edit suites in the building, and i know the Kona works cos it works with all the other decks in my edit suite.
I have been in touch with AJA support and they seem to be trying to answer my questions but with me being in the UK it takes a day to get an answer for every question i ask.
If you have any pointers at all i would be most grateful.
I am running AJA control panel version 3.4 as recommended by AJA and have tried various options in the device control presets, including starting a new one trying RS422 and RS232.
In fact, when i choose panasonic 232 the message under the transport controls says “VTR OK” very briefly and then swiftly goes back to “No Communication.”
Is it possible this is firmware issue with the deck? If so, how do i go about updating the firmware on it anyway?
Thanks in advance for your patience in reading this and your help if you manage to give some advice.

yeh, i mean that would be possible.
the task at hand is exporting stills of specific people so it would probably take longer to create the stills sequence and export as you suggest, which i like by the way, then rename the jpegs in finder as we would have to go back to the sequence to find out the persons name.
time wise, i guess it’s just easier to do a quicktime conversion export whilst in the correct place in the timeline, where the persons name is mentioned. That way we name it at this point and it’s done.
I was just looking for a batch export option that would be quicker.
I guess we could crreate a seq for each still, name the sequence and then do a batch export but not sure that even that would be quicker.
Guess i’ll still think about this one as it’d be cool to work it out.
thanks again

Cheers for that Gary.
i like the idea of that but one of the most important things for me here is to have the jpegs named correctly.
I was trying to see if i could save some time but doesn’t look that hopeful just yet.
If i ever find anything that works i’ll be sure to post it….howeevr if i use that method for anything i will be endebted (is that right?) to you!

alternatively you could nest the title and copy/duplicate it (and rename) for each time you need to put new text in timeline.
Place them in the timeline and edit the text for each one.. that way it doesn’t cost you anything and if you get a tpyo just edit the text in the nest.
Hope that’s correct and helpful.

!!!!!! i’ve got a lot to learn there.
thanks for the help on the quicktime side. I did wonder whether i’d be able to do it that kinda way but had no idea how to even start with applescript as i’ve never ever used it!
As far as the second option…disc space is definitely too limited but nice lateral thiunking.
any more for any more????
😉

hmmm….i wonder whether there are any applescript experts around that would be able to work their magic and tell FCP to do what i need.
I’m not sure whether automator can help..any thoughts?

thanks for that…
definitely good to know that this process exists in case we coe upon it.
don’t suppose there’s a way to try and fix the pixel on the LCD….that is, apart from the often used massaging – which hasn’t worked in this case?mike

July 25, 2007 at 8:20 am in reply to: HD251 component capture with firewire device controlthanks for the pointer.
I don’t understand why AJA would hint at it being possible if it isn’t.
I’ll continue my search but looks like getting a deck is the only way.. plus it’s abviously the correct way too. I don’t like using the camera as a deck, not good for anyone or anything concerned!
Thanks for your input.

just out of interest is this a dead pixel in the chip or just the screen?
we have an GY-HD251 with a pixel out on the screen and would like to get it sorted.
thanks in advnace for any pointers.
