Here is the message from another thread:
John claims that you can shoot direct to the drives???John Baisley, president of Panasonic Broadcast U.S. “We have selected the Focus FireStore Direct To Edit solution as a way of offering economical long-duration DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50, or DVCPRO HD recording to the event production market. The FireStore solution, like our P2 card solid-state memory solution, speeds up the production workflow by eliminating time wasted digitizing footage.”
“It is exciting to further expand our partnership with Panasonic and to extend our FireStore DTE platform to include a portable DVCPRO HD variant capable of 100Mbps video bit rate,” said David O’Kelly, vice president of business development of Focus Enhancements. “Working closely with Panasonic, we plan to offer significant media cost savings to DVCPRO HD customers requiring long-duration HD acquisition.”

That was my original understanding. No big deal. The firestore drives are just that.
I think those drives are designed to off-load footage from the P2. I am not sure if you need to hook up the drive to a laptop or not. Some clarification from Panasonic would help.

Hey Bob,
I was going to e-mail you next! You beat me too it.
Yes I finally am getting serious about going to FCP.
I am sure it cannot be any louder than my PC.
I am looking at an HD set-up.
I will e-mail you off-line tomorrow.
Thanks

If you could record DVCPROHD 1080i to a hard drive that would be cool.
What is HD? 1 gig per minute? 60 gig would give you one-hour of HD?? -

October 25, 2005 at 4:02 pm in reply to: What is the best camera to use to get film look?I just finished an edit that was shot on BetaSP. At the end of the edit the director said oh yeah we need “film-look” added. OK, I rendered a 1 min sec so he could show the client. They were happy so I rendered the entire 12 min show. Cost them $1500 more. I told the director next time he could rent my DVX-100 for $200 a day and save himself about $1000. He was sick when he saw how much better the DVX-100 footage looked compared to his BetaSP “film-look”. However, he is still not convinced that DV is better than BetaSP.

I saw an AXIO demo last week. 3 people including myself were in attendence. I have had DigiSuites since 1997 but I would say that Matrox has missed the boat. It looks like an FCP system is in my future.

In the HGX-200 demo it shows them inserting a P2 card into a laptop??

Couldn’t you bring a laptop and a large firewire drive on location
and dump the footage from the cards? I know you would have to
then take the footage on the firewire drive and transfer to your
edit system drives. What is the difference with the 60 gig portable
firestore drives?? -
Is this local or regional?
Most TV stations will accept BetaSP.
Some have even accepted DVD but most
do not want a DV tape.
Just watch your levels (Audio & Video) in post.
I have shot many spots with the DVX-100
and they looked great on TV. -
