September 27, 2005 at 3:52 pm in reply to: How to capture from a DVD in to FCP?

I’ve never done it myself, but I am told that a piece of software called Cinematize by Miraizon is the way to go.

  • I have to confess I must be one of the ones misunderstanding Replace Edit.

My experience is that when I try to replace a clip with a dissolve at the head, I tend to get an “Insufficient Content” error message, but if I delete the transition, then Replace Edit works as I would expect. So, like the person who started this thread, I find I am having a hard time replacing clips while maintaing the existing transitions.

From what I’ve described, Kevin, can you explain exactly what it is I am doing wrong?

    TIA

July 5, 2005 at 8:00 pm in reply to: No audio during log & capture

Figured it out! The Gain on the Clip Settings menu was turned down to 50, which apparently is low enough not to capture an audible signal. Turned it all the way up to 150 and it’s working fine. (Had it been turned down to 0, I might have figured it out sooner.)

(By the way, the source VTR is a BetaSX connected via SDI.)

Thanks to all of you who took the time to offer suggestions.

April 21, 2005 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Kona 2 driver/firmware update problems?

Thanks for the advice, Clay. I’ll keep it in mind for the next update.

Finally heard back from Steve T. at AJA tech support today. He recommended trashing the FCP POA Cache pref.
That did the trick! (Never would have found it on my own.)

But I appreciate all the suggestions. I’m glad to know there are others out there willing to share their knowledge.

April 21, 2005 at 3:15 pm in reply to: Kona 2 driver/firmware update problems?

    Hi, Jared

Thanks for the reply. And there are no stupid suggestions 🙂

Yes, I did check the System Prefs and Kona is selected. I have explored the new scrolling control panel in the Kona 2 and don’t see anything that relates to audio output. And in Final Cut, the Audio/Video Settings have AJA Kona selected as the audio output.

I am new to both Kona and FCP, but I’ve looked everywhere I can think of and everything seems correct.

I have put in a call to AJA tech support. I have a feeling that my Kona 2 may have bitten the dust.

Does the Kona 2 have come with any self-diagnostic test to isolate the problem?

    Again, thanks for your help.

April 19, 2005 at 10:49 pm in reply to: A Boris RED question. How do I load Browser Library

    Hi, Jerome

Do you mean that there are no files listed in the Library Browser (under the preview/comp window) or that there are no images in the little thumbnails in the right-hand column of the Library Browser window?

If it the former–that there are no files listed–then perhaps your Keyframe Library is in the wrong place. On my system the path is: Library>Application Support>BorisFX>Red Keyframe Library.

If your problem is the latter–that there are no images in the thumbnails–one of the buttons, 3rd from the left I think, is marked “Generate Thumbnails” or some such thing.

    Hope that helps.
