Listening to the audio output on a mixer is indicates only there’s audio on your tape.bogiesan
This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

July 5, 2005 at 7:05 pmDefault for all Apple presets is for the Speaker to be OFF when capturing. If you’re listening to the output of Final Cut Pro during Capture, you need to turn the Speaker ON.
Go into your Capture Preset. Go then go down to Audio, Advanced. Turn the Speaker On.

July 5, 2005 at 8:00 pmFigured it out! The Gain on the Clip Settings menu was turned down to 50, which apparently is low enough not to capture an audible signal. Turned it all the way up to 150 and it’s working fine. (Had it been turned down to 0, I might have figured it out sooner.)
(By the way, the source VTR is a BetaSX connected via SDI.)
Thanks to all of you who took the time to offer suggestions.
