January 24, 2011 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Custom Behavior in FCP Template but Not in Motion4Thanks guys…
This is one of those type behaviors I have seen in various media but always thought it must have been done in After Affects since I have never seen it “off the rack” in Motion…and I since don’t have the chops to do it as a custom behavior it was on my “one of these days I’f figure it out” list. Now I have it. Cool.
BTW The template is in FCP – 3D Text Projects>Text Spin Cycle.

Thanks everybody…and Stephen – I have seen parts of your DVD. Good stuff.
But…as with most all tutorials, the learning is glommed with a bunch of other stuff and is usually in the context of a simulated project that contains lots of lessons and or techniques. They are great.
But from my perspective (and I do training videos for a living) nobody has produced any training/tutorials that address how to do a specific thing in Motion. I have a bookshelf full of tutorial DVD’s that begin with “in this lesson we are going to learn A, B, C, D & E.”
Damn, man. How about just showing me how to do A? We’ll do B in the next chapter.
Take my question for example…One could do a simple 2 or 3 minute tutorial on how to manipulate the little animated pieces in the drawing section of the content library. Then in another little lesson, another 2 or 3 minutes on another single thing…Like how to manipulate/what to do with some of the stuff in the Line or Gadgets folders.
Training that consisted of a couple of dozen or more little 2-3 minute lessons on how to deal with major content categories in the Motion library would be great.
Not for nothing but I’ll handle the creativity on my end. I already have and idea of what I want to build…I just want to learn how to use a hammer…just show me how. Don’t do it in the context of how to build a house.
Sorry to rant…I appreciate the good works that you Motion mavens do on the boards here. But from those of us who only do this at the rookie level, training like I have described would well worth it.

Zak,
I downloaded and installed the Hex Colour Picker as you suggested. Nice little plug in. However it does not seem to want to work in Motion. It works fine in other applications I tested but does not show up when I dial up the color in Motion.
Thoughts?

Thanks Guys… Just needed to drill down a little more I guess.

It will be output to 4×3…that’s my call. Least common denominator. Everything I have is 4×3 except that one sequence of XDCAM Footage so that seemed the way to do it. It’s a boardroom type presentation.

Thanks for all of the input. I found some candidates and will do some monkeying around with them.

Thanks.
I had alway perceived FC server as something completely different. It is, of course, an ideal (albeit complicated) solution for what I need – in a couple of years.
In the interim…any other solutions that have a lower investment?

Not quite sure what you mean…

I think I took care of it. My sequence settings may have been out of whack. I had been working on a differently formatted project and when I created a new timeline for this one I may have been using the wrong sequence settings. I created a new timeline with different settings and it seem to be OK.
Thanks.
