I’m getting full 29.97 playback, even on Best/Full with HDV clips on my quad core, after letting it loop once.

With a few AVCHD clips that I downloaded, I let it loop a few times and it goes up to 29.97 at Best/Full.

Do you have at least 2 drives on your system, one for your apps and another for your working material?

Is your Preview window set to Best/Full?
If so, drop it down to Preview/Auto.

BTW, with the exception of certain video cards for Magic Bullet, Vegas won’t take advantage of any of the capabilities of your RTX100 video card – or any other video card for that matter.

Also, the more video FX you stack on it, the slower the preview will be.
That’s why Vegas has the RAM render feature.

Are you playing DV-AVI or something different?

Do you have any video FX on the timeline anywhere?

What’s your computer’s speed (i.e. processor)?

Is your Preview window set to Best/Full?
If so, drop it down to Preview/Auto.

Have you tried using nested vegs (Vegas 6 and newer)?
It sounds like they’re what you’re looking for.

Turn off “Quantize to Frames” (toolbar icon or found under Options). This is what restricts audio to ‘1 video frame at a time’ movements.
Slide audio as desired to get proper sync.
Turn “Quantize to Frames” back on again.
Click the video clip, shift-click the audio clip and then click the “G” key to Group the two.
BTW, “U” is for Ungroup.

Sorry but the firewire port needs to be on your computer, not on an external drive.
Next time you’re in the office, copy all the project files to your external drive and use that when you’re at at home.
As long as you don’t add any other assets, all you need to bring/send back and forth is the veg (project file).

Larry, I’ve read the occasional report of nested projects causing grief but overall they work great!!
Since they came out in Vegas 6, I use them all the time.
Having a powerful CPU makes them work even better and faster.

If you’re talking about Vegas Movie Studio, version 8 is already out.
If you’re talking about Vegas, it’s going to be shown at IBC next month (Sept. 7-11). No date for the official release has been announced.
