Keep both version of Photoshop on your machine as you have. Adobe has been getting better with their releases, as we see fewer posts as these adn less need for .01 updates.

Try running photoshop CS2 with no other applications int the background (Especially softimage XSI). If it runs good, then begin to use other applications until you find the conflict.

Check for updates to softimage 4.2 or 5 i believe are the highest in each category.

Instead of 300 dpi, switch to 120 px/cm in Photoshop. The amount of pixels you should have is (126 x 120) x (125 x 120) = 15120 x 15000.

The conversion from inches to metric is where your problem appears to come from. res 12 is 120 px/cm which is also = 304.81 dpi. Res 12 is optimal for many film/direct to plate imagers, but they round off to 300 dpi to make things simple (though it takes longer to rip cause of the interpolation-atleast on scitex/crossfield/hell it did).

edit / preferencnes / displayes & cursors /cursor shape = brush is the best you can do.

You can use the mac or PC to change the color of the cursors in explorer or windows, but unfortunately the cursor color while in the app is not easily changed unless you regedit the app.

Many things that can slow down Photoshop and I have outlined in my book “Photoshop for Digital Video”. Chapter 1 (Startup kit)shows you how to adjust your settings to get more speed out of any machine. Chapter 28 helps tweak your machine to fix problems.

You have plenty of free hard drive space, ram, but have you used a utility to optimize your hard drive space? I personally have a drive on my computer which is empty that I assign all my Adobe programs to use for cache space. Thsi way I never have to optimize the drive as it goes back to zero k used after all programs are closed.

You can turn on pixel doubling in your preferences to help redraw./

Give us more detail as to what exactly is slow (booting the program, working on any image, working on large images, all apps are slow, using a certain filter, etc)

If you have a simple logo with just a few colros or less, this is easy, if your illustrator artwork has many shapes or colors you will want CS2.

Copy each similar colored Illustrator CS1 vector shape, and paste it as a shape layer in Photoshop CS1. You will need to assign the color in Photohsop manually for each shape.

Holding down shift while drag and dropping will paste in center. What version of Phyotohsop are you using?

Does your Ctrl key work for other applications?(e.g. Ctrl N in explorer). Do the keybaord commands show up in the menus?

No there si nto a keyboard shortcut, but you cna make your own.
