There will always be some change in converting RGB to CMYK. Some RGB colors like red or yellow convert well to cmyk and others like 255 blue do not. Your monitor is also an rgb device, so the representation is not as accurate for CMYK.

Overall you will notice less saturated colors in CMYK, because RGB light is cleaner and than CMYK inks.

Your color settings also play a part in the conversion, but that is a very long topic and make sure you are set to US Prepress Default.

Ouch. Funny you mention the updates, I just had to disable the auto update on startup for Acrobat Pro, cause our internet was down moments ago and that was locking up acrobat.

Do you have the master collection. Reason I ask is it sounds like all your apps are crashing and that is one item linking them all together. you may want to pretend you are deactivating it for the machine you are on, and then reacitivating it. Prior to that try resetting your prefs, that may also fix your problem.

That is a physical limitition of your printer. Ink can not print to the edge so the gripper can grab the paper, and also so that ink doe s not go off the edge dirty the roller and foul the inside of your printer.

You will have to either print to a larger piece of paper and cut it down.

Option 1) A grayscale file, and tell them to use the same plate for 2 colors. No reason to give them 2 grayscale files if the artowrk is the same on both.

Option 2) Give them your duotone file.

Option 3) make a cmyk file, then go to the channels flyout menu and choose add a spot color and name the channel your color. Do this again for your second color. Then paste your artwork into the appropriate channel

Option 1 is the simplest and most printers will understand how to make separations form this. Option 2 & 3 require them to place the file in a program like InDesign, and then in the print/output enable only the 2 colors they want to print.

Usually when you do a duotone the artwork for each plate is different somehow. So your printer will probably ask you why you are wanting to use the same image for both colors, as there is not really much advantage to using 2 inks, just disadvantages such as moir

Not sure what a MBP is unless that is a MPB Mac Power Book. I do not have an SSD card, but your idea sounds good as the Express slot is fast so it could make a good fast scratch disk as compared to a not so good idea like using a zip drive.

How is you SSD card formatted? You may want to try formatting it to Mac Journaled or something else and try that. The mac reads PC formatted disks, but Photoshop might not like that for scratch disks. This is just a guess, so I hope it help out.

Can I inquire why you want to use the SSD card for scratch. Is you hard drive full or do you want to use a drive that will wipe out to zero after using and be unfragmented?

On your second image which is 25 mb, I did a save as and unchecked the “PDF comaptible” and it went down to 10.4mb.

Now I was able to do a save for web, on a Mac withg 5gb of ram.

Your images are embedded which makes your AI file size larger, so you select an image, choose file >> place (and check the link and replace option). Your images will now be linked rather than embedded freeing up disk space and making your saves faster (but do not delete or move the original images or the links will be lost forever or broken until relinked.

To solve your problem I recomend trying an export to tiff(72 dpi), than opening the tiff in photoshop and doing a save for web.

Since your images are embedded, we do not know their resolution, and save for web needs more ram/graphics card power to work than export.

I am not sure of the nature of your question, but YES there is a 32bit display mode in the display control panel on windows; which will give you the maximum amount of colors as the millions option on the mac.

The cause of the problem is likely due to the location for Photoshop scratch file

You coudl log on as admin and chaneg this or just reset your photoshop prefs by booting phothsop and immediatley afterwards holding down Ctrl Shift Alt and choosing yes to reset prefs.

If you need a movie showing the type morphing to a foot print, this is an After Effects job using SMI Smart Mask Interpolation.

If you need an image showing the steps in between, you do this with the blend tool in Illustrator.

Are you wanting to stylize your ITC Garamond to italic and bold? If so that is something Adobe intentionally does not allow in InDesign, and I for one am very thankful for this; as stylizing fonts is not good typography.

If you are working on a project that does not need professional looking type, you can add a very thin stroke (about .2pt)to your and skew your type about 12 degrees to simulate a faux bold and italic.
