I have not seen any of these shows…just set my DVR…but I will agree that shows and commercials seem to find a gimmick which is cool or effective in moderation, and then overdo it.
Something we see a lot now is 3D extruded text comped into scenes. Fringe started doing this and now you see it everywhere. It is nice, but it can call attention to itself also. That being said, I am going to try it first chance I get!
I never liked the shakey-cam in dramatic tv. NYPD Blue used a dolly for the shakey cam which was really perplexing, but it obviously caught on.
We just started watching Carlos, the 5 hour miniseries about Carlos the jackal. It is shot mostly handheld with some pretty long takes. That plus the subtitles makes for shorter viewing sessions than normal, but it is very well done.

The drawback of conforming is that Premiere wants to sometimes reconform all media which can take forever. Seems to happen if drive letters change

Windows media player will choke on data rates that high. If it it ok imported back into premiere then it is not really a problem.

The big question no one has asked is, “If you own your own production company, how do your average sales compare with your other options?”
$15/hr is entry level pay depending upon where you live. If you are in LA you can earn more making coffee. If you are in Omaha, it may suffice temporarily.
As Grinner has reminded you, if working freelance, or for your own company, charge enough to make a living, not just to get by. Ramen noodles may be yummy and cheap, but that is the salt talking. Charge what you are worth plus enough to pay your overhead and some profit.
What decision to make? Mark, as usual has the right advice. Decide what you value the most – money, experience or opportunity to meet people who can advance your career? Likely it is a combination of those things and not an easy decision to make.
What is often the moral of the story on threads like this is remember to look at the big picture. Charging $30 an hour if you own a good camera and lighting kit and an editing system is peanuts.

As an aside when I was a kid in Des Moines we often took cub scout and school field trips to the local Parker Brothers factory. They would give you a free board game at the end of the tour. Usually some new game before it got popular.
