AE uses a couple od different methds; stereo Pair, Interlace Upper L Lower R (polarized or LCD shutter glasses), and the old 50’s standby red-Blue (or Red-Green0.
I just use the old 50’s Red Blue with the Red Blue Glasses. From the help files it seems to use the luminace value, although one method uses the rgb channels (I’m over my head here, merely quoting the Help files).
I’ll try some of you suggested methods above.

Very strange. You should be able to select the mask shape, copy, the set a “Source Point” keyframe, then paste, and have Shine floow that path (now position keyframes for Source Point). It works for me as I write.
Maybe sommeone else can provide help.
Help!

Like Shazam said, CC Light rays and CC Light Burst, and even CC Radial Fast blur (quite nice really).
If you pre6.5, the old Radial Blur on Zoom (like Photoshop) will work (weaker than the rest).
Dup the layer, scale it up a bit, then Radial Blur it, Amount up to even 300 or so. High Antialiasing.
Sometimes a little Scatter, before blurring helps.
Then dup this blurred layer a few more times and move the “Center” to a new letter. You’re talking a slow render though.
If you are less than 6.5, I think I’d double the price of Shine ($100 alone, cheap for what it does) and just upgrade to AE6.5, for all the CC filters and the other 6.5 improvements.

Ctrl-Click keyframe, is the shortcut to switch between Linear and Auto Bezier.
F9(and in combos with Shift and Ctrl) adds Ease in various forms.
Sticky keys? Split brain (left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing thing) problem? Your Right-Bezier Creative Brain hitting keys unbeknownst to your Left-Linear Keyframe Brain.
Electrons on Spring Bread.
Digital Anarchy.
The permutations are too numerous to detail.
If you’re not hitting some of those keys, sounds strange, really.

I believe if you’re bring the path in from PS via Copy/paste, you need to set a keyframe for “Source Point” (in Shine), then paste into that keyframe. You should get the path conveted nto position keyframes.
If that doesn’t work, just twirl down that newly created (unwanted)mask, select the “Mask Shape”, and copy it, then paste back into the Shine’s Source Point.

After Effects can do it. I just did a little 3D on a tentacle worm thing, yikes.
In AE, Channel>3D Glasses. I like that old 50’s (your eyes will die after 90 minutes) look. The plugin is a little confusing, lots of options for the newer stero 3D, but for the old 50’s look: “Balanced Color Red Blue” with the avi as the left and right image, then you tweak the convergence parameter to determine how quickly your eyes will die.
You can get a free pair of 3D Glasses in the mail, google “free 3D glasses”.

I need to check out Particular before I buy, but if you’re into wierd particle worm-like-tentacle things, oops I’m letting the dark-side out, PI has a place… maybe.
