For that flickering projector look, you can use the wiggle expression on the projector Opacity. I used :

    wiggle (5,15)

    How about this:

Finished = 3 layers (top to bottom)

    1- “Movie Reflected” layer
    2- “People viewing” layer
    3- “Projector” layer

    Details:

Add movie to be projected. “Projector” layer.
I decreased the size to about 30%.
Grow Bounds, so Radial fast blur isn’t limited.
CC Radial Fast blur. I used 100, standard

Add the people viewing movie above previous layer. “People viewing” layer.
Draw a mask to outline people where you want the reflection. (I used auto trace, current frame, then copy-pasted the mask into the “People” layer).

Add the movie again (above). “Movie Reflected” layer.
“S” to reveal scale. Disconnect the x and y. (unclick the little know box next to the percentages). Change the first % (x) to a minus, say -50%), this gives you the reverse in the reflection. Change the y% to the same figure, but positive (+50%, my example to match -50% x above). Change the figure to get the reflection the size you want. Set blending mode to screen and opacity to 50% (tweak to taste).

You should have a close up on faces watching a movie being projected from behind them and reflecting on their faces.

Hope this is what you want.

I think this from Serge might help:

    https://www.nyc-visual.com/

See “Smoke Trail”. The aep looks like the one for “Fluid” and may be close enough, but the Cow Forum Reference gives a great quick how-to. Lots of good stuff there.

Please disregard my pathetic question above. PI SE is waaay more than I currently need, and I plan to purchase it soon. No matter hoow good something is I guess you often want more.

    Happy Particle Trails to You…

    Out.

The Plugin is “3D Glasses” in the Standard and Pro versions under “Effect>Channel”.

Download the demo version and see what you think:

    https://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=13

And google “free 3D glasses” to get a pair of red-blue glasses(choice of several places). All form of 3D from this native AE plugin are there, you need to select one of several forms from the drop down. The documentation from the help files is a bit sparse and I wish I could get more info myself.

I haven’t used the stereoscopic or shutter options as I don’t have the glasses and there is no nostalgia draw there for me. In truth, I think they work (the red blue glasses) but my eyes are a bit bogus, as I was diagnosed with some problem with improper eye “fusion” (by the Arm. I couldn’t see depth perception properly for an Army drivers license, without Army issue glasses, but it didn’t stop them from sending me to Vietnam with a pair of glasses of course – that I promptly threw away, and this is probably way more than anyone needs to know here, but – it looks like the old 50’s red-blue 3D effect to me. Like I said, get the demo, fully functional for 30 days, and check it out. Like I said, get the demo, fully functional for 30 days, and check it out. AE is very powerful, 3D Glasses being the least (an little used and/or understood)among many capabilities.

AE is an amazing program and I’m anxious to see how PI integrates with it when PI AE Plugin comes out. I am currently particle-challenged, and I know Trapcode Particular has many devout followers at the Cow AE page ( and many also mention PI), but from fooling around with the demo version of PI, I find it easier somehow to get interesting complicated variations.

    I’ll shut up now.

May 2, 2005 at 4:17 pm in reply to: recommended settings for exporting to swf?

It all depends on end-use, and I think that goes back to setting up you materials, meaning AE outputs real vectors (read small swf files) for a few things, AI files (as layers), solids, text9SEE HELP FILES). And the only effects are Audio Waveform/Audio Spectrum (2 of my favs). No 3D, effects, multiple blending modes, limited masks, etc. So if you have raster stuff and need the jpeg part of swf, look out for bigger files.

One thing interesting, if you have flash, import your AEswf into flash, then output that as a swf, and you’ll get a 25-70% reduction in file size. I know it’s crazy, but it does it, must be that flash optimizes swfs better. There is something that optimizes swfs above and beyond flash (Opti-something) ask at the Flash forum, Lee Brimlow mentioned it awhile ago.

I don’t know if I’ve provided any help or just raised more questions.

May 2, 2005 at 3:59 am in reply to: Distributing 3D objects in a circle.

Cylinder Creator Lite (comes with AE 6.5) works fine to make layer orbit in a cylindrical fashion. Just creat a 3D nul and parent all the layers in the cylindrical spread to the null, then rotate the null.

Digital Anarchy has tuts. But basically you just make your layers 3D, then open the Cylinder Creator Lite Window, it’s under “Windows” near the bottom, but they’re grayed out if the layers aren’t 3D.

    This is also available:

“Distribute layers in shape of sphere” by oscarus

There is even an aep file, so you can just Alt drag layers if you’re in a hurry.

If your project wants to veer toward instability, like me and mine, check this marvel from Dan Ebbert out:

    https://www.motionscript.com/mastering-expressions/random-sphere.html

This will give you random motion on a sphere.
