November 16, 2011 at 10:40 pm in reply to: how to selectively “brighten” area of a clipGood advice from Angelo. While I haven’t done that in Vegas, I’ve used the same technique in final cut. Works like a charm.
Good luck!

Bump- Any ideas, anyone?? I’ll send it off to Sony if not.
Thanks,

Hello Diane.
I recently purchased an ADK 2600K system. It has an intel extreme motherboard.
I have win 7 64 bit and 8 gigs of ram. I went with a cost effective invidea 550 card, but now that
GPU acceleration is a “work in progress”, I’d splurge for a better video card. Two monitors ( or more) is a great addition to your system. The faster the CPU, the better. The current 2600K will still lag under heavy load in an HD project. It all depends on the project and settings.I have 4 internal Caviar Black 1TB drives. one for OS, one for source, one for rendering, and one for audio. I could use a few more! The extra drives help eliminate bottlenecks.
The one down side to the current 2600K is the bus structure. You’ll rob bandwidth from your video card
if you were to install something like a raid controller on the other side of that buss. With that being said, if you are not planning on doing something like that, the 2600K offers lots of bang for the buck.As for the 8 gigs of ram, you can get two 4 gig sticks and add two more later when you need it.
If memory serves me (no pun intended) the new chips will have to match the old chips for proper operation. I could see a need for more than 8 gigs at some point, but for now it’s been plenty.Good luck,

Thanks for the tip Steven ! I’ll have to look up my purchase date, I may qualify.

October 29, 2011 at 4:36 pm in reply to: How do I get Vegas to use all of my processor power?Glad to see that you solved your problem. Always good to look for and eliminate those bottlenecks!
I recently rendered a complex project on my new system, and it used 100% of all of my cores. So after spending time with my new computer and Vegas 10, it safe to say that Vegas
will use what it needs when it needs it. I’m using Nigel’s “dual instance” tip to render multiple
output formats when I’ve got the available headroom, but on this latest project that poor
2600K hit the wall !Too much is never enough..
Cheers,

Just a thought, and I know that it’s not ideal, but he could color correct and render that footage to a new file, then edit off of that one. I’ve done the clip by clip routine and it works but it’s tedious .

October 29, 2011 at 4:13 pm in reply to: How do I turn on GPU accelerated video processing?Hi Dave, thanks for the reply. After reading soooo many troubling posts about Vegas 11, I think that
I’ll sit it out for a bit. I can’t take chances with projects at this point..Thanks,

October 27, 2011 at 3:51 pm in reply to: How do I turn on GPU accelerated video processing?Hello Dave. I remember you from back in the Amiga days. Nice to see you on this forum !
I just bought a new 2600K PC and Vegas 10 prior to the release of 11. Off of the top of my head, it has an invidea 550 card.
Do you have Vegas 10 and 11 both installed on your computer, and is the display so bad that you may find yourself doing the project in vegas 10? Is the display in 11 OK if you turn the GPU acceleration off? Is the acceleration that you get with the Invidea worth the “headache” 😉
I have a few projects that I need to kick out, and I’m pondering if I should get 11 or just stick with 10
for now.Thanks,

October 27, 2011 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Titler Pro Advanced Styles tutorial from NewBlueThanks for the post! Is this the same program/plugin that comes with the upgrade?
A few questions please:
Can you easily map video over the titles, or do you need to get creative with an alpha channel/mask in Vegas ?
Does it import 3d objects/models ?
Can I import a 2D logo that was made in a paint program, and extrude it and manipulate it?
Thanks,

October 10, 2011 at 7:29 pm in reply to: How do I get Vegas to use all of my processor power?Taking a quick look at your picture, all of your cores seem to be bouncing from 60 to 90%.
My cores stay relatively steady at 50%. I’m just guessing, but it seems that your laptop is incurring some type of bottleneck.Do you have multiple drives in the laptop? If not, that can cause problems. So can the drive speed.
My desktop has individual drives for the OS,Audio,Rendering, and Source as to help avoid bottlenecks.Remember that if you are using 4 cores at 100% and four cores are at rest you’ll see a 50% overall CPU average. When I render two files at one time, I use 100% of all cores, and in resource monitor most of those cores are a solid green squares with little to no dips. I can indeed render two files at close to the speed of a single file.
I would try looking for bottlenecks in background tasks, disk read/write, system setup, etc. and see if some tweaks can speed things up.
Please keep us posted on your progress.
Good luck,
Mike
