    Hello Dave,

My source is also AVCHD.I did several tests but my opinion is that when i use AVC blu-ray it is sharper/nicer then when i re-encode to mpeg. Not much but it is sharper.
And offcourse the new smart render. When i insert my source, and render it to “Sony AVC” as AVCHD file then it does smart render( if you don’t change something offcourse).

So that are 2 nice things. But offcourse this is my opinion.

I just saw Vegas Pro 9C is OUT!! I’m not at home for the next 2 days!! Can someone test if the bug is solved?? i’m dying to know!!

    Thanks Lou for your answer.
I’m glad to hear that Sony knows the error now.

I keep an eye on that forum thread you gave me!
Now we wait indeed for the “C” version ……..

    I have the same issue!!

But i don’t want to make MPEG2 blu-ray if possible.
I think that AVC blu-ray is sharper and better then MPEG2.
And offcourse the smart render is great with AVCHD. Less time to make an video stream.

Still there is no fix/solution for make an AVC Disc??

October 14, 2008 at 6:47 pm in reply to: AVCHD to BLU RAY with vegas 8 and DVDA 5?

Oke i have upgraded my computer with some memory and i’m testing with the AVC templates

    2) Sony avc Blu-ray 1920-1080 50i 16Mbps(makes a .AVC extension)
    3) Sony avc AVCHD 1920-1080 PAL 16Mbps (makes a .m2ts extension)

    Still i have one question:

When i look into the templates of Vegas( button custom and then the settings of the template) , i see 1 difference between the two templates( except that 1 is with audio and the other format not)

    Template 2 uses profile: Main
    Template 3 uses profile: High

I have a Sony TG3, so can someone explain me what is the best template i can use???
What is the difference between profile main and high??
    Quality or other decoding format???

I hope someone knows the answer!!
    Thanks again!!

Thanks again for your time to explain it to me!!

So you say that AVC = AVCHD = format/codec from camcorder??
Sorry for the silly question then but why does Vegas 8 have templates for render to Blu-ray .avc extension and AVCHD .mt2s extension when it is the same??( i know that avc is only video and avchd is video and sound but is that the only difference??)

Oke last question and then i am a happy man:

When i in DVDA 5 have made a blu-ray disc(i.e AVC) and after that i want to use the same compilation for a normal dvd. Can i simple change the properties of the project to DVD and then “Prepare disk” again?
Does DVDA5 do all the right encoding to normal mpeg2 or must i do it myself in vegas all over and make an another compilation to make a normal video-dvd??

    Thanks in advance!!!!

    Thanks for your answer!!!

I see your point but for my information:

Is there an difference between quality of option 1 or 2 from vegas 8?
    What i mean :
Option 1 is an template who says :video format=mpeg2 25mbps
Option 2 is an template who says :video format=AVC 16mbps

I know my source is only 15 Mbps so that doesn’t matter but what about the codec’s
Which is better from AVCHD to: AVC or MPEG2 or is it the same codec with an another name???

I hope you can explain it to me!!
