Here’s the first place you should go: https://www3.softimage.com/DS2/right/document/LearnColl/default.htm
Here is the official DS web site: https://www3.softimage.com
Here is the DS forum/list: https://groups.google.com/group/DS-List?hl=en
I would also recommend taking some of the official classes:
https://www.avid.com/training/DS101.asp
https://www.avid.com/training/DS201.aspLearning on your own can be a little overwhelming.
Good Luck!

Dan,
I’m sorry you’re running into trouble. I hope you do realize that running an unsuppored configuration will save you money, but give you countless headaches as you’re seeing now. My suggestion is to follow the readme pdf file that comes with the software and follow the configuration requirements. Also, the 980 is not supported in 2.7, you may be able to use a console command “legacyoverlay on” to help playback performace once the system is configured and you’re able to launch. This should allow you to continue to use the 980 without having to upgrade the graphics card.Readme: https://www.avid.com/content/10539/README_AvidMediaComposer.pdf
Windows Optimation file: https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/supportcontent.asp?contentID=7913
Hope this was actually helpful.

I’d love a further explanation of “rock on” for HDV editing. Sounds a little to technical to me. And which NLE’s actually have this “rock on” functionality? Well grinner you’ve beat me by a year, ’95 for me. Oh and BTW, I’ve worked on MC Adrenaline 1.0 thru 2.7. I will give you that up until 1.6.8 it was beta, but it has passed that. Do a google search for selling used avid gear…the sooner you move to FCP the better. Send us a postcard. And good luck.

Give me a break grinner. What version are you running…1.3? 2.7 is one of the most stable releases I’ve worked on. And hasn’t native HDV editing been out for over a year or has it been two year now…I don’t remember? I think you need to update your version and your facts.
I for one would be happy if you just sold your crappy Avid and move on to something else…wait, why haven’t you? I don’t see how you get anything done with the beast you have. If I were you, I’d cut my loses and get a system I

DS/Symphony Nitris do not output 5.1, they will output discreet channels that a 5.1 Doby encoder will turn into 5.1. The panning capabilities in DS do not make it surround sound.
You will probably need to speak with audio pros/engineers for more specific info.Dolby info:

Actually, Avid has made DNxHD available for any manufacturer to use. I believe it is open source. Ikegami has the codec built into they’re HD Editcam cameras.
It’s a real shame AJA and BMD aren’t utilizing the DNxHD codec…it’s amazing quality for the file size.
Also, if AJA and BMD where smart they’d get .mxf compatible and they could sell capture boards across the entire Avid line and other manufacturers that support the new format.
BTW, the bit rate varies for DNxHD…at the high end it’s 220 mbps and they’re coming out with a low-end 36(ish) mbps compression. -
Did anyone mention that it’s a pretty damn good keyer once you learn to operate it!
