Check out Pro versioner from Digital Rebellion – it can help with saving alternative cuts.

1st off – if its a commercial project and you have a choice dont’ shoot greenscreen with a DSLR. It can be done but it’s a whole heap of pain. The H264 codec, with the line skipping really does cause all kinds of issues.
The DSLR’s don’t have aperture correction. Maybe playing with the sharpening might help. Shoot at a pretty high F stop. F5.6 or more (i.e. F8) – you need detail not get the best key.
As for lighting: 2 lights either side (same kind, same wattage, same distance away) pointing at the background, with primary green gel. Then 2 lights (Pref. fresnels) point at the subject from behind (careful not to hit the lens to much). this will help increase separation between for and background.

Two backlights, one on either side, make a lot of difference. Bring you screen lighting up a notch and add some primary green to the lights so you are lighting them with a really saturated green. The R & G component of white light act to desaturate the green.
One possible aspect to look at is your camera settings. Aggressive aperture correction enhances the edges quite dramatically and that’s a nightmare to key out. I notice it a lot when using smaller cameras like EX3s or XF305’s – which is why I use big cameras like PDW800’s.

December 2, 2012 at 9:50 pm in reply to: Sharing practices for those who do not get corrupt framesI’ve had some odd glitches on export on my 17″ pre thunderbolt MacBook Pro. Fairly sure it’s a problem with the memory but I haven’t had a chance put confirm it.

That statement denigrates the great work done by inventors and engineers…
The development of the microwave was basically an accident. Percy Spencer was standing in front of a magnetron, testing out his new efficient design for RADAR when he noticed his the chocolate bar in his pocket melted. He then put some popcorn in front of the microwave and saw it popped all over the room. These observations lead to the discovery that microwave are a) dangerous and b) good for cooking.
Visicalc was invented after its inventor saw his professor having to re-write an equation on a board and realised he could do it on a computer. He wasn’t responding to his professor saying “Oh could someone invent a computer progamme to do this for me”.
The point is, the customer doesn’t know what they want because the don’t know what’s possible. When it Edison created the lightbulb it was as a result of experimentation. It wasn’t the solution to a problem.

November 29, 2012 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Why The Pro Market Should Take FCP X Seriously – HD Magazine articleSo does the fact that no one has jumped en masse means its rubbish?
No. How long did it take FCP legacy to get a decent foot hold in broadcast? Well about 3 or four years if not more.
There’s also the fact its new .. people in our industry are cautious. Did people go and by Avid when it came out? No they didn’t it took an age. Even when Avid could do Full broadcast, tape suites were still busy for a few years to come.
But you guys who are ignoring it – ignore at your peril. 10.0.6 is completely different to the original release – mmm sounds familiar.
But you will start to get asked if you can cut on it I’m sure. As the word spreads and people see it in action it will infect like a virus.
I’ve just finished shooting and editing a series of 6 x 30min round table discussion programmes for a european broadcaster. 4 x PDW800’s with audio to a 788T. Most of the programme is the discussion, with small insert packages (think Newsnight). We cut each each one in just over half a day. The producer was over the moon and is now raving about FCP X.
We’re making inroads and “it’s another piece of software to learn” really isn’t going to cut it for much longer I’m afraid.

Thanks for that Bill – by tag do you mean keyword?
I probably dont need to bother with video proxies or indeed syncing the audio off the744, as we’re record full audio to both the PDW800’s and that will be fine. But all else makes perfect sense.
Thanks again!

You need to google Adam Wilt and 10.8.2 Basically you need to fool the installer into thinking its running on 10.7 not 10.8
We’re still waiting for Canon to come up with 10.8 s/w.

I’ve got a feeling that’s high on Apple’s agenda!

I think the custom effects live in your user -> movies folder, so you might have to copy them separately.
