Everything that I have seen from that lens is awesome, that is one sweet lens. If I were starting out with on lenses no other camera I would seriously look at the GH2 but with a couple of canon lenses I just cannot jump ship.

400/800GB is uncompressed/compressed on the tapes. I would use use uncompressed but that is what I have always done so others may weight in on it.

While the expensive systems are worth the money especially for busy studios you can get by just fine with just the drive which is a fraction of the cost. You have to maintain records and do more stuff by hand but for a small shop saving several grand is really important.

If they have all HD footage they should edit in HD that then downconvert the final movie to your specs. If they have a mixed amount of HD or SD they may want to downconvert the HD to match their SD footage. This would speed up the editing/render/exporting process.

  • [Nelson May] “I get the “do you want FCP to change the sequence to you clips settings” when I drop my first cut into the timeline.”
Why are you thinking this is a bad thing, that is what you want. Your Sequences settings simple do not match your footage and FCP is changing the sequence to match the footage. If you don’t want to see this you need to start with the correct sequence settings.

Changing the camera to match your sequence makes no sense whats so ever. You shoot with the settings you want.

Also you have 720p OR on OR 30 and so on 720p is the resolution and the others are the framerate, there is no OR between the 720p and framerate the OR is for the framerates.

DLT is slow and expensive per GB, get a LTO drive. LTO 4 is very usable for backing up camera raw footage.

That doesn’t sound like a TC problem but a NOT recorded problem or I’m I missing something.

If you set the Capture to Non-controllable device, hit play on the camera and then hit capture now in FCP it will capture audio and video if it is on the tape.

I think this maybe a real good option for the AF100 also. I’m hopeful that the next round of DSLR will have clean HD out.

[Richard Harrington] “You are suffering from not knowing what you don’t know”
That is a golden saying. Love it.

We are living in a time where we need to know the entire workflow to get things right. While we can all afford to buy stuff that are being used by the big boys there is no easy/quick way to pick up and shoot. A person still has to put in the time and effort. But the good news is that there is a ton of info and help available that wasn’t around for the old timers.

There are many good resources out the Richard/Robbie’s book is a great one, covers A-Z, informative and walks you through what you need to know to get a firm foundation.

  • BluRay is HD but it is not HD DVD there was only a couple players made that could play both formats and they have not been made for a couple of years. HD DVD is a dead format. Unless the player has HD DVD logo on it, it will not play these disc. If you want to play HD material you need to be burn it as BluRay, which can be done is the new version of Compressor but not DVDSP.
