12 minute limit is on all the cameras and yes it is a major concern if you are shooting that type of stuff. You have to be able to control the start and stopping of the action. I’m sure this is something that is on all the manufacturers minds.
That is a more reasonable budget.
I got the T2i because I wanted to get my feet wet and that is all I could afford. I’m now buys lenses but I will try to get EF (vs EF-S) lens just encase I get a full size camera down the road but realistically my upgrade will be to the 7D and then the T2i is a backup or second body. You really cannot go wrong. Video quality is pretty much the same and by the time you put all the gear on the camera the model is that last thing anyone notices.

never said a powered zoom was below my standards, these cameras are built around a film mindset, a film production, which means prime and short range zooms. The lenses are as important as the chip, a power zoom lens for a 3/4″ camera is huge and cost thousands of dollars. 35mm film lens with powerful zooms are mega bucks.
I would make a joke about your tone but I don’t think you would find it funny, lighten up don’t get so defensive.

first off, you need to have at least $2K for a starter system to make it close to usable for real video work. It is really hard to use that stock lens for video.
All Canons record H264 go getting around that. All Canons has the 12 minute limit, you just hit record again, not good for performances or long interviews but most film type shooting it is no problem. You convert the files before editing, there is no quality lose in that conversion per se. The quality lose happens in camera. CS5 just speeds the workflow process but if you plan to do heavy color correction you would still want to convert the files to a better editing codec. Cineform seems to be what people on PCs recommend.
You need to get Class 6 or above. Transcend are what most people recommend, they are the best value out there. 8 GB is not much, I would recommend at least (2) 16GB cards.
You export is uncompressed these cameras record highly compressed files.
That 11-16 is the next lens I get. Most people need a couple of lens, which one you need is determined by what you are doing. We have a lot of posts about lenses just look over the forum.

When deciding on what to buy here what I keep in mind.
First question I ask is, do I need it now? If it will not pay for itself within 6 months I don’t buy. I upgrade systems about every 4 years, my current is 8-core 2.1 MacPro, so it is starting to show its age. I cannot upgrade graphic cards to take full advantage of the new CS5 and others. But it is still a great system and I do fine. If I needed speed more than I do money I would start looking. Right now I can wait a little longer on a render or encode.
When I do buy I normally get the most processors, but the second from the top speed. For me this is a good compromise and I feel giving up a little speed for a big savings is okay. I get the more processor over more RAM cause I can always upgrade memory later on. (I never buy memory from Apple, get if from Macsales for about a 1/4 the price).
The other thing is the graphic card, unfortunately Apple is on the ATI side and Adobe and Black Magic are on the NVidia side. If Color was not in your workflow I would probably get a high end NVidia card.

where have you been, Panasonic is release one before the end of the year, Sony is release a lower end one also. These big companies don’t turn on a dime, I would be at NAB 2011 there will but a bunch of high-end to consumer level Video camera with the big sensors.

But that is going in the opposite direction of a film style camera, we like DSLR because they look less like video, which needs to be shoot less like video, #1 thing that screams “THIS IS VIDEO” power zooms!But the new panny gives you xlr inputs, viewfinder and LCD screen and most importantly HD SDI out. So you can bypass the compression. But when you get up to this level you are looking at a 6K camera, and really 10K but the time it is outfitted but this should really be an awesome camera.

Yeap, most of the new power apps (CS5 and DaVinci) are being written to take advantage of high end NVidia cards and more RAM.
I’m sure when the next set of Apple Pro apps comes out we will see a huge increase is power. (Let’s hope so). It is funny that you really don’t hear anything about Grand Central or OpenCL.
Compressor is the one app that will take all the processors and use them as virtual cluster. Then a new app from Magic Bullet (Grinder) uses a separate core for each clip in the queue, so it would process 12 clips at the same time.

have you tried regular DVD-R or +R disc? Also don’t rule not you authored the disc wrong.

Just a thought. Does the Decoder Apple gives anyone have LT in it? Can it be used along with FCP6’s full ProRes Codec. If it does you would be able to edit the native LT and set the compressor type to standard PR, that way it would only need to convert if something needed rendering. Worth a look into.
