Well first of all we need to see what came over from Premiere in the AAF. After loading the AAF, do a “set bin display” and click “show reference clips”. This will now display all the source clips that made up the AAF. The reason to do this is to add the “Tape” column to the bin and see what metadata was being tracked for the camera originals. If all is good, it should be the original 16 character.r3d file names. If not, what does it say? Hopefully it’s not the 8 character truncation of it. If so, there is another possible workaround.
Then, in another bin, AMA link to all your RED original camera files. Once loaded, select all, then select the sequence from the AAF import, right-click, and select “relink”. At the top you want “relink to selected”.
from there you want to make sure all the other settings are good – I’m not in front of a system now, but you want to go through each of them. In the area where there is a side by side type selection, the left side represents the sequence and the right side the selected clips. Make sure that is set up to match Tape/Source File and remove any .r3d or _001 if it exists. Then click OK.

Thanks for sending. I guess I should have asked this beforehand, but Canon has never supported 24.000fps with their AMA plug-in, and still do not. I have no idea what the issue might be and why that cannot be offered, but I sent an email off to my contacts there to see if that was going to change. Since camera manufacture the AMA plug-in, it is a Canon issue, and no Media Composer in this case.
I did open the files just fine in Resolve Lite. You can make QT wrapped versions or MXF native from there if you want. That is free, or you can look into EditReady (USD $49.95) https://www.divergentmedia.com/editready
Sorry for all the hassle… 24.000 is the bastard child in Canon AMA world.

Folder based formats like Canon/Sony/Panasonic that rely on XML and other sidecar/proxy formats can be frustrating to find the right AMA Plug-in as well as the right level to select (no more than 3 folders up) etc.
I find that installing all Canon AMA plug-ins can something help, and not just the one you think you need. Then I go with the the file AMA (not the folder one) and drill down to the actual clip to make sure I have the right plug-in. Once I know which one, then I switch to the folder based AMA plug-in and work my way back up from the clip folder until I find the level it is happy with in the hierarchy.
Not easy, but once you deciphered proper AMA and folder level, the rest is straightforward.

HAve you copied the folders from the mounted sparseimage file to another drive first? I am wondering if MC does not see the mounted sparseimage file as a real drive to link to. You can try entering “alldrives 1” into the console to see of that helps.

Don’t know if it’s the “preferred” one or not. It happens to be part of the MC bundle that includes Sorenson and MPEG is one of the many formats it can deliver, and requires no additional purchase. I always found the quality to be OK, but not the best. Cinema Craft Encoder is one example of a better quality MPEG encoder for DVD in my opinion.

Both good questions for Avid to answer. I always preferred using Adobe Encore for authoring so I am not familiar with Avid DVD by Sonic from a user perspective, but am familiar with it as a product. Sonic was acquired by Rovi in 2010 and as far as I can tell, Avid DVD was never updated or such, just maintained. The Send To function is more a Media Composer feature which one can set up custom versions of if needed, so I am wondering if the preset template got corrupt and no longer works. Have you tried created a new “send to” template and see of that works? I have not made a DVD in 5 years and no longer have authoring available to try myself.
As far as Avid providing another DVD solution, I doubt it very much. It has divested itself from most bundling licenses such as Boris with the 8.x release with either reduced or trial versions. Subscription comes with additional “Lite” versions of Boris and Squeeze, but no longer the full versions as before. Your existing ones will still work. Unless the new 4K DVD spec is a huge hit, I don’t believe Avid will provide DVD authoring the same way users need to look for third party apps to create DCP for cinema screenings at festivals and such.
