I doubt Fotokem has any units yet unless they have early units and MC software to support it. The press release is the usual one you see with company releases meant to validate the product more than anything. According to the main DNxIO landing page, it is still not available. “it is coming soon”

Hmmm… I wish Avid would keep more historical metadata when AMA linking and transcoding. That being said, you might be able to identify sources via the filename which would now be in the TAPE column for the DaVinci transcoded material. Red is 16 characters in length, I think Arri is 18, etc.

Was all the media AMA linked and transcoded? If so, look for AMA Plug-in column to see if that helps you. It will at least help with the RED files.

Media Composer does not have a true conform feature where a relink goes out and finds just the clips it needs. You will need to manage that manually. You can do a pull list, or make a list of the camera original file names that you will need to AMA link to (Link to in 8.4) first, to make them available to the project, then do a “relink to selected” as previously stated.
You can make an EDL to see which clips, or put the sequence into its own bin, and so a “set bin display” and “show reference clips” and you will see just the clips used to create the sequence. Sort by master clip, and you will see the files you need to go find that way.

It would be odd, but when DNxIO was announced at NAB, Pro Tools was not yet “supported” and one of those “in the future” items. it seems that it now has official support.
I wish MC would allow for video and audio to have two different I/O devices.

I just saw via facebook, via twitter that Pro Tools will not support the DNxIO. Considering it’s audio limitations, I don’t think I would make this my first choice based on its price point to do video monitoring.
Perhaps it will be welcome in audio facilities that are responsible for the doing the audio lay back to the final master where tape deliverables are still required.

Perhaps over time, but for now, my understanding based on how the marketing is worded is that it is for signal based encoding only. Meaning when you are capturing via an HD, 2K, or 4K signal. I see nothing yet that suggests it will be used for transcoded, rendering, etc.

I never really questioned its ability to be rack mounted, what I meant about machine room class device is all the different signal based SD/HD I/O for a variety of decks and the small confidence monitor to confirm an active signal.
In an edit bay, the monitoring will most likely be a calibrated monitor of some kind which will confirm whether there is signal.
Once we get this into the market, we will all have a better idea.

Actually you raise a good point and is something I did not test in my writing the workflow – I did not use XDCAM discs, but were all from file based cards. There could be a difference in the way MC wants to work between disc label and all that good fun stuff.

Does the unlink/relink work if you transcode first and try it on those files? Just trying to separate AMA from the process to see where the issue might lie.
