You can try selecting the sequence(s) and in the relink dialog window (from hell), at the very bottom is the ability to relink to a specific codec/data rate. Try that.

  • So I would focus on ensuring your system is capable of finishing at whatever higher resolution and application your are choosing to work in. If it handles that, then offline at DNxHD 36 will mostly likely be fine.

Blackmagic and AJA are supported with Media Composer. You will find a lot of forums discussing each. In the end, AJA seems to be more stable, but if you are using Resolve in your workflow then you will need to go Blackmagic. Finishing also entails proper color management and calibration – not only for the monitor, but the environment as well.

I recommend that audio syncing be done in Media Composer and not in third party dailies systems. Keep in mind if you want to sync to 1/4 frame accuracy you will need to create a with 35mm/4-perf project type and import audio directly.

If shooting ProRes, you will most likely be shooting ARRI Log-C so decide whether the LUT is baked in during dailies, or you will apply in editorial. Also, what aspect ratio will your final delivery be in?

  • To some extent, the bigger questions is how you plan on finishing? Especially if shooting RED, will you be finishing at HD or higher? If Alexa, RAW or ProRes. At your budget I would stay far away from ARRI RAW workflows. If you are creating DNxHD 36 dailies from your camera originals, then you might get away with a system like yours but making the dailies may prove frustratingly slow (especially RED).

What’s your archive strategy? At least two backups of the those. Double system audio?

In the meantime, give this guide a read for some good info.

With v7 and 8 you can apply a LUT to change color space as needed on source clips.

In theory yes, I need to get more familiar with Philip and Greg’s application to give a more accurate answer. At quick glance, close. Right now it is about clip and source reporting based on specific columns you want to track and a list of their IN, OUT and DURATION in a ready to do spreadsheet format. There is no real UI other than drag and drop. I am adding a template concept with this newer version when ready.

And yes, there is not a lot of money here – I have yet to break even on the mus.iD version. 🙂

There are times I wish I could write code! I am designing the product and the solution with an engineer friend of mine who does the hard work. 🙂

  • Here’s how it’s done in Audacity.

You can export the audio from your clip as WAVE and and roundtrip it through Audacity. Then AutoSync it back to original clip.

I am in the alpha stages of a reporting app that is a drag and drop of an AAF file that generates a Tab or CSV file to be used in Excel. As long as you track the where the sources are from in a column you create, you will be able to generate these types of report.

It is an update to the reporting app side of my solution for music tracking as seen here: https://www.mus-id.com/

I’ll post an update here when it’s ready.

  • AMA link to the ProRes files and take your sequence(s) and use “relink to selected”If you want to replace all your sources with “LOG” media, that is another matter…

    Michael

  • I would just finish the edit as you have it, then conform in Resolve for finish. Export AAF and have it link to the camera originals found in the Media Pool.
