AMA has a ways to go before it is on par as what we have come to expect with “tape based” workflows over the years. Now some of that functionality is no longer needed, but offline/online, multicamera, AAF, etc, needs more work. That being said, batch capture assumes a tape based workflow and needs values in the TAPE column. If you look at the TAPE and SOURCE FILE columns, only the SOURCE FILE has metadata.
A workaround is to create an EDL, import EDL which makes TAPE sources (legacy function) and you can batch capture from tape. Note that AMA will create an EDL where each source is its own filename, If you want other “reel” based type sources, then enter that in the Camroll or Labroll columns and use that as source when creating an EDL.
v6 allowed for relink between SOURCE and TAPE based when a sequence points to either SOURCE FILE to TAPE, and the assets point to the other. But it has some issue as well, like not working with spanned files.
Try the EDL and see if that gets you any further along.

Timeline conform options in “settings”, check the used embedded sources checkbox for “assist using” and try again. That should be the correct one for conforming to MXF files. But beforehand, add the Avid MediaFile folders to the media pool.

If the clips were transcoded to DNxHD 145 or higher you can just use those for final color correction as you won’t gain much if anything by going back to the original H.264. Export AAF or EDL to DaVinci and point to the Avid Media Files folder as the source in the Media Pool.

MC6 does not support audio from Epic recorded R3D files. Were the BWF jammed synced? If so, use timecode to match to find corresponding sound to picture.

If you export an AAF or EDL to DaVinci, it will use the value in the SOURCE FILE as its source and expects all files to start with 00:00:00:00. So if you AMA directly and export AAF/EDL, and in DaVinci set up to use the filename as source in the settings, then it will conform and you can color correct from there.

Why not just use the filename as source when conforming in DaVinci? Each file will be its own source. Works fine for me. If you look at the TAPE column or the SOURCE FILE column what do you see? If I remember correctly, the REEL is added to the ALE file which you need to import first then merge the files into that in order to see that value in the TAPE column.

Are you using the installer that is in the applications folder? If you are still seeing this, and I have once in my past. I go ahead an install media composer, then uninstall to make sure. Then do a final install.

Also try round tripping an AAF file to see if that fixes anything.

I can’t remember what causes that error message. Can you try transcoding both of the original clips to see if the culprit is one of them? Also make a subclip of each (take a few frames off the head and tail of each) and transcode that. Do any of them cause the same error message?
