I’m running 6.0.3, QT 7.4.5 on my MBP 2.4 and it works great. Is there really an issue with Quick Time and is it with both PPC and Intel units?

Can you play the clips in the Clip Browser program, provided from the DVD with the camera?

The SxS cards are to pricey to have enough to hold a day of the media on and most laptop storage is under 200 gigs, so then it seems you will need a power source to operate and external drive to dump the files to. An external drive would be the most economical but I want you to consider a new product coming out from Convergent Design that will record HD-SDI to compact flash cards. https://www.convergent-design.com/
I had the pleasure of helping Mike Shell at the CD Booth at NAB and I believe this new XDR Flash recorder will solve some of these issues. It is a powerful tool that allows you to determine the compression level from 19/25 Mbps HDV to 160 Mbps 4:2:2 All I-Frame. The great thing is that these cards are extremely affordable. Take a look and let me know if this is the right tool for you.

One thing to note is that the EX1 only down converts the SP or HDV record mode from the camera. If you record in the HQ mode the camera won’t down convert.

As Don has said just drag the BPAV folder to a NEW FOLDER and label it as CARD #1 or what ever you want to call it, then in the XD Cam Transfer software find that NEW FOLDER and it will open. The Transfer software opens the BPAV folder all be it self from choosing the NEW FOLDER it is in.

I have the 2-8 gigs cards that came with the EX1 and I purchased 2-16 gig cards and this has been working well for me. I get nearly an hour at HQ 1080 24p with one 16 gig card.
Good luck with the hunt to find your camera, try Mid Town Video in Miami, they had the camera weeks before anyone.

  • “Making sure I have the current XD Cam Transfer version 2.1”
This may just be a typo but the latest XD Cam Transfer version is 2.5.1
I just spent the week at NAB and there will be a new EX Clip Browser program soon that will allow transcoding directly for MAC use. I also heard there is a firmware update that Sony service must do on the EX1 directly. When I get home I will also experiment with the secret back menu that allows for Lens Back Focus alinements. The original firmware version was said to be 1.3 and I heard there is 1.5 available, this is all I found out. Getting to this service menu identifies what firmware is running.

  • If this were me I would uninstall the XD Cam transfer program and repair disk permissions, trash final cut preferences and download the 2.5.1 XD Cam transfer software again. If you have access to another MAC unit try your files there. Since the files play in the XD Cam Browser the files don’t seem to be the issue. If you still have issues you may need the EX1 to play the files and actually capture the media if time is pressing.
