I believe I ran a crossed some 1500 watt equivalent (softbox) kits that he must be using. It would take nearly 38- 4′ T12 tubes to equal 1500 watts, thats 4-image 80’s and 1-4×4 kino.Ryan,
Having the light far away doesn’t make it a bigger source on the subject, as it doesn’t rap around the face like natural light would do.If you are using units with a single globe that can’t be individually turned off (like an image 80 kino) then try a (5×5) white bed sheet or muslin cloth much closer to your subject and bring these flos in behind it and see the difference Dennis is talking about. You most likely won’t need a fill light at all. The bed sheet will become the source and a much larger source it will be. Ad ND filters for the desired iris you want.
Your skill level is obvious, but keep trying new setups and you will find something what will work for you.

Since my key and fill lights are fluorescent I would need my hair and backlight to be fluorescent as well right?
I would say no you don’t need a flo for backlight, If you are shooting tight enough then a flo would work, but if you need flexibility and something you can control without additional grip gear I would consider a focusable fresnel lamp. Arri 650 tungsten unit will give you what you need. If you need to match color temperatures to daylight you may consider a 1k (1000 watt) unit that will give you a little more light from the unit that can help when you color correct it with blue (CTB) to match.Good Luck

I hope I didn’t insinuate that JVC makes any cards as I don’t think they do, but if they did put their name on SDHC cards I’m sure it would work in a MxR with an EX camera.I read Craig’s thread and that link he provided on the JVC didn’t say that the SxS cards would be needed for over cranking, it is just my guess.

The MxR/SDHC is a wonderful solution to the EX cameras. -
SDHC (secure digital high capacity) is not CF or compact flash.
JVC has introduced new solid state media recording cameras using SDHC cards and SxS cards for the 35 Mbps EX codec. They need SDHC class 6 cards and no one knows if they will there are limits to there over cranking.Good Luck

It seems that Sony has limited the use of the operating system for USB based recording for their hard drive recorder that opened the door to SDHC media. So yes there are limits to how much over cranking you can do using the MxR/SDHC combo. If over cranking is a majority of what you do then you need the SxS cards.

If someone was attempting to shoot a feature (with Film) 20 years ago they would need a light meter. Today shooting a video feature you don’t, however you really need a good field monitor that is properly setup.
I do agree with using a light meter as much as possible (with film or video) as it will force the DP to think about the picture he is painting, and help him in choosing the right lamp from within his lighting package for the job. I prefer a spot meter reading the reflective values. I still use my meters every job.

I would load the Flash XDR with 4-32 gig Transsend cards and record at the lower 50 Mbps,

Card Stuff?, I think of it as media management, and from here out you will need to keep a close eye on these files that most likely will live on a hard drive (or two to protect yourself).
We have seen many people with issues with converted media. It is a good idea to archive the original files as you may need to work on a different platform later at the clients request. If these files came off a tape and captured to MXF I’m sure you wouldn’t trash the tape after capture. With the price dropping on SDHC media cards you may consider this as your tape. Search MxR/SDHC, this is a good solution.

Good question, I think you would have better luck asking this over on the Final Cut forum as there are much more editors hanging out there that should have your answer. I know it is possible and the editor of the production I shoot does it, I just can’t get a hold of him right now.
