I believe each use the same Exmor 1/4″ sensor and would be the same in low light. I would not consider a camcorder with only a hard drive to record to. The Pj has solid state internal 16gigs of storage and it also has a SD slot so you can add your own SDHC media. Another reason is I’m intrigued with the specs of recording on the PJ, 1920×1080 60p @28Mbps AVCHD, this is a feature of the FS100.

What format is the camera set up to? (24p),
As far as I know HDMI only works with broadcast signals (60i). Not sure the camera sends HDMI out when in 24p.

I really think saving a few bucks on the Ninja and converter is a bad idea, why not go for the Samurai for HD-SDI and not deal with another piece of equipment to not only power but mount.

Perhaps you can fool the camera into making it work, I wonder if you can format the card as FAT-32 and copy a BPAV folder to it and then try.

I have the Libec and it is good for resizing and start & stop but it isn’t a creep zoom control. The handle in the camera does this the best on my EX3.

For me it is not so much 4:4:4 but single link 4:2:2 S-Log to a 10 bit or uncompressed recorder. I need a money tree.

Once you preform the free upgrade you will have access to the A SDI Dual Link spigot and you can turn it on from the Video Set menu and use it for the external recorder and set the SDI/HDMI Output to either HDMI or SDI Out spigot to have the camera display information to run to the EVF. You are right about losing one of the ports (SDI Out/HDMI) when the Dual Link is active, and for me this is fine.

AVCHD (Mpeg-4) is the next generation of compression and it is more efficient at lower bit rates than Mpeg-2, however after 50 Mbps they both begin to even out. Convergent Design uses Sony’s XD Cam (Mpeg-2) encoder in the Nano Flash and it allows the end user to control the encoder from 18Mbps all the way up to 280 Mbps. Another feature of Mpeg-2 is that at 50 Mbps it produces 4:2:2 color space and at 100 Mbps you have a choice of either intra-frame or inter-frame compression.

It is my opinion that AVCHD 24Mbps is very even to the EX codec of 35Mbps. The FS100 uses a very large single sensor to produce full raster 1920×1080 HD and the EX uses 3 1/2″(1920×1080) sensors that some would argue has more RGB pixels represented within the 1920×1080 resolution. Both cameras produce amazing video.

THis is an upgrade option that allows for Dual Link 4:4:4 to port out of the SDI a & b port for external recording.

No, If you have updated the free firmware to ver. 1.1 the a port is now active and you should use this for the Ki Pro Mini, just know it will ad to the voltage consumption and if not needed it should not be selected for longer battery life.

The Ki Pro Mini only records single link signals as ProRez 4:2:2 and you will never need to feed it a dual link signal.

The F3 can supply the SDI and HDMI with display signals and the Ki Pro doesn’t ever want to see these display settings signal so Yes if you have upgraded the F3 to the new 1.1 Firmware use the Dual link A port to feed the Ki PRo.
