June 21, 2011 at 2:24 pmI believe each use the same Exmor 1/4″ sensor and would be the same in low light. I would not consider a camcorder with only a hard drive to record to. The Pj has solid state internal 16gigs of storage and it also has a SD slot so you can add your own SDHC media. Another reason is I’m intrigued with the specs of recording on the PJ, 1920×1080 60p @28Mbps AVCHD, this is a feature of the FS100.
Video Mode : HD PS: Approx. 28Mbps / FX: Approx. 24Mbps / FH: Approx. 17Mbps / HQ: Approx. 9Mbps / LP: Approx. 5Mbps; STD HQ: 9Mbps
Video Resolution : HD: 1920×1080/60p, 60i (FX, FH), 1440×1080/60i (HQ, LP); STD: 720×480/60iGood Luck

June 21, 2011 at 5:22 pmi got the cx550 before bought my ex1r. this cam is amazing. just shot a wedding in greece last week and the footage is pristine. i use the xposure button manually, and wb manually. autofocus works great and ive got the studio 1 xlr adaptor for my audio input. its crisp.
overall you cant go wrong with it. i think the xr is the same or similar to the cx.
plus having the 3 1/2 inch screen is nice.i find myself using the viewfinder alot when im outside if im not using a lcd hood.
the batteries last forever. using the nv70. i bought 3 with me to greece and theyve lasted the whole week. im in chios now getting some beautiful footage for for my stock library. the water is so blue and clear here.
good luck -
