I have Vegas 11 pro and have the extact Same problem, I no longer contact SONY for these issues I just replace there program and give them bad PR.

If a solution is available please add it to this blog:

    10/6/13

    File name: 00003.m2ts
Status: Vegmuxtw.dll::CTSWrapper::ProcThreadMain::Failed to read ES file. – The ES file may be shorter than the size described in the MUI file.

What shorten files!, hey guys I dropped the home video cause “Click to DVD” a 10 year old program worked but my Vegas 11 Professional no less did not!

  • I started keeping track of passwords lost on vegas systems around 2005 I think.

    Lost password signons on:

    06/07/06
    05/22/10
    09/12/09
    01/31/13

Probably allot more times, since I’ve had vegas in the 1980s++.

To my AMAZEMENT (however) it seems out of th eblue and rather suddenly the vegas people documented ALL the Vegas software I had registered since 2000+/- They did lose all the older info.

ALSO all my sony passwords are now the same, creative, photo support, computer, tivo, gigapocket, forums etc…

So there is hope, NOW getting the latest Vegas to work as advertised now thats will be a treat, i think the last time that happened was 2004, maybe earlier?

  • Don’t be discouraged.

I am in the same boat as you, can’t get Mpg files to load, and now other Sony Products are heading south.

Its my firm belief that just like our government has become excessively corrupt that such corruption has infiltrated the Large Software Company market.

If you keep Vegas and find a solution, I would LOVE to here it, no one seems to be able to easily fix tehissues and you have to be a hacker to get stuff done.

  • Since Vegas went south I have redundant SOFTWAREm Nero, Magix, Corel and even Roxio at one time.

I avoid Adobe since I find there spying on me a little too much, I still use (ahem) Photoshop 7 for picture issues and love MS digital imaging pro (MS makes a good program and so it is discontinued).

I make a living on several methods so I need all the programs from website developers (dreamweaver another adobe) to excel to live with each other, Vegas is close becoming a program that cannot do that starting with version 9 or 10.

Its a pity to remember the good ol days when I did EVERYTHING with Vegas and did not need to putz with all these other packages, but tell Vegas you don’t work with all mpeg files and they go silent or insist they do.

They did get the inportant stuff going for me with a 6-hour re-install, but the simply things still don’t work, and they will NEVER be addressed, even if I pay support $30 (which two clients did already when I could not help them fix there Vegas issues) and that $30 did not get them there project done they still needed me to do the GRUNT work.

What a way to run a business thats why so many people now torrent these programs or seek Freeware equals to replace the pain that comes with OWNING your software.

I did get a laptop and am currently contemplating just putting Vegas on it, I normally buy sony but I blame sony for this debacle so I went with another company, I suspect Sony Software will work better if NOT RUN on a Sony computer… This has been there trand lately as well.

  • I did not give up on symantec Ghost when it did not run for a full year without issues, the reason was simple – they tried to help. Unfortunately in the end a full OS restore Was the ONLY way to get that app back!, I MEAN THE ONLY WAY.

Its not likely that I will give up on Vegas, they do actually have a help line and I understandable only called once when I went ballistic because the software re-install could not read ANY FILES, PURE CRIPPLEWARE, but with a radical wipe out of ALL VEGAS Software I was able to function again (waiting to see for sure but it seems okay).

Vegas IS the best Program in the market, when it works. When it doesn’t its issues are agrivating beyond words since it usually consumes allot of time and effort before it blows up in your face.

  • Once upon a time when Computers ran 1 processor and I had 4 machines each dedicated to ONE major software package a problem was clear and obvious, either the OS or The APP.

Today programs have to live with neghbors, LOTS of neghbors, they should give a user understandable error message like “Neigbor one has locked this library up and I cannot run” or “error xxxxx, please refer to your manual for details”.

Unfortunatley errors now say “error cannot open file”, or just “error”, Software support is flimsey even if you call one a year TOPS.

I read about your MAC issue and find that obscene, software designed to run optimally on teh mac does better in a windows Emulation mode!?!, sounds like a begas problem, very odd…

But re-installation of teh OS everytime ONE app files on these new 7 core monsters means losing a dozen of other apps with it, I cannot afford to have the weakest link on the system be VEGAS, and the solution be re-instal the OS.

  • Since this message the Begas people responded 6 days thats a record!

    And What did they say – – – – – Re-Install.

So here is a procedure to Blow away ALL your sony Vegas stuff and start clean:

    https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4844/kw/clean.

The previous re-install instructions both left older copies of vegas and plug-ins etc… I wiped out everything Vegas, I simply needed to get the project along.

Summation: Vegas has issues with older version of VEGAS, it has issue s with .net and probably c redist libs.

I havn’t address the 1/2 dozen other issues I’ve had in the past yet since I need to get this current project done but at this time I consider Vegas no longer crippleware but rather FU#&$D up Warez.

By the way I recommend looking at above links home directory – it has some interesting fixes and info.

I am now trying to recover Plug-in and addons that were lost in this last fiasco.

  • I noticed something similar with a window sto windows upgrade, I went from a legacy 3gh vaio to a powerspec with crossfire 4670’s (which the vegas people SAID would be useful in rencering BEFORE I bought Vegas 11).

The issue at hand is that the software does not do well in a linear fashion, faster CPU in theory should render faster, GPUS should improve life, but I noticed moreso then not that the CPU on the legacy system was thrashing but getting faster results then the same version 64 bit on a core i7 with 2 x GPU’s.

So you need to experiment to get JUST the right mix of hardware and software to make it run.

  • I Will be honest. When it worked in the past it was by far the BEST product in the industry.

I am finding as with other software products that had a long history of excellence that when you build a near perfect product that really needs little or no modification that the generation responsible for the Magic retires or is canned and the new people and company no longer care, they just want to milk the money they can get out of its dieing carcus

I see this in Vegas for the last couple years, Support simple does not give a %#^$ and really can’t fix anything, the firt error message after the install simply said error…. The next provided an unaddressable explanation – the signs of crippleware – And I paid thousands of dollars for the Vegas series products to get this kind of treatment.

I should have torrented it like I will suggest to my clients should they want to stay with the product.

  • A few years ago I would have said the same, Software Support is NOT what it use to be, SONY is also a far cry from what it also was.

I’ve had this package for over a year and its one problem after another, I am not a big production person but when I need my software to work its GOT to be there!

And this DOES NOT excuse support for letting issues after issue accumulate w/o a resolution for over a year and closing the problems w/o solutions.

My hardwar works fine, I have several other competitors products running fine or at the bery least adequate AND Vegas ran fine for over a year (older version), I’ve also re-installed the os 3 times over and with a fresh install vegas still has issues, Tell me you never imported a file that says simply “error …. ” without a code or explanation, or that your audio or video failed to load, I NOW know dozens of people with these type of errors…

Version 11 solidified the failings of Vegas in my opinion, in fact it was pretty bad with version 10 as well.

So any solution other than re-install or its a hardware problem, neither of these offer solutions OR explanations why the same hardware worked 2 years ago, nor why 3 fresh installs from OS to vegas also failed to correct all the problems.
