Particle Illusion is by far the leader in particle effects creation. It can make ANYTHING you can imagine. From billowing smoke from a bonfire to blood spatters to waterfalls…PI is very, very good.

As a quick side note to Frank’s post, I shoot quite frequently for ABC and ESPN and there has never been a delay in payment as I’m aware of the terms before I arrive and they hand me a check at the end of the venue. I have been paid on a 30 day net before when working with ABC, but generally if they know you, you get paid the day you work except in certain instances.
Frank’s dead-on about the Federal ID and setting your terms. If you have a “deal” and you’re an individual, they are generally not enforceable, but if you have all of the legal necessities of a company…like a tax ID and and a Federal EIC number you have some, albeit a very slight amount considering your employer.

For the most part, if you have accurate before and after segments, it’s a good idea provided that these shots are pretty clearly different and that they accurately show what YOU did instead of the resuling work of a team.

30-day Net terms are pretty standard on the creative side, but not for shooters and day-labor workers. If you’re getting your payment after 30 days, change your agreements to read that the agreed amount is good for 10 or 15 days, after which a 5% fee is collected in addition to that fee. When we hire shooters, we pay them the day of, or the day after the shoot. We prefer to review the product, but when it’s a person that we’re familiar with we pay them on the spot.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but taking unprofitable work just because it’s there is a terrible business model. If the project is undertaken, and that project isn

Ah, the good old days when I could turn down work. Boy, those were the days. My sincere advice is to focus on your organization and time management to the point where you are dedicating only the provided time to a given project at a chosen rate. If your time is so stressed that you

May 14, 2005 at 3:49 pm in reply to: FINALLY!!! My Lights Are coming to Market. Share your thoughts…..>>>Photo InsideThank you for pointing this out to me. I’ve sent the link to my representative to follow-up. I’d prefer not to speculate about the exact process or products of a competitor, but siffice it to say that we’ve come to market with very similar ideas at almost the same time (Personally, I find the photos uncanny). Considering that our US Patent was applied for quite some time ago, I’d suspect that this question will work itself out.
Outside of that, I was encouraged not to speak. If you’d email me outside of the forum, I would appreciate it as I have a few questions.

Tough shoot with that kit. I’d suggest something a bit differently than Mr. Ticheli, but with the same logic. Without the set blocking, there’s no way to give you specific placements, but assuming that it’s a round-table type discussion, I’d look toward using your Omni in a lantern configuration on a boom or suspended in the center of the speakers and cross-fire your Tota at about 35-40 degrees on either the left or right side with a white bounce card just out of frame. Another diffusion material with some reflective qualities would work as well. With your remaining source, you might have to use it up and to the same side as your Tota with it functioning as a backlight, again just out of frame and with an opposing bounce card to capture any stray beams.
Ultimately, there

There is one on the way from Rockport Press, but it will be design in a more general term instead of simply motion graphics. It will however come with a CD/DVD periodically to show the specific talents out there. I was solicited for advertising which is how I head about it, but we were told that the interest was very low. Obviously not low for the readers, but low are far as revenue and advertisers were concerned.

May 10, 2005 at 11:50 am in reply to: FINALLY!!! My Lights Are coming to Market. Share your thoughts…..>>>Photo InsideWay ahead of you there. We do have a built-in gel frame for the intensifier, but thus far we’ve not been able to get the exacting quality that we expect from the mount so it’s being redesigned as separate frame that can be attached when needed.
Literature will be printed in about 45 days and is set to go out within a week of the day it’s received, but we’re still working on the website and contact routes at present. There’s nothing worse than needing help or having questions and talking to a damned computer. I want to make sure that this is done right the first time.
And as I said in the last email, the four switch model works to control other piggy-backed units from one head. If you link 30 of these together, you can shut off entire banks of them with a single switch simply by plugging them in through the appropriate connection. The single units are proving to be pretty versatile too, but the multi-link lights are going to be a big bonus for people who prefer to not carry a lighting grid and fade controllers to location shoots. We’re getting some Osram dimming controllers in within the week for testing and assuming that they work as expected, we’ll ship the second run of the single switch models with an external dimmable control. That control will only add a small amount to the cost but will add a great deal of function to those who are used to dimmable lights.
Aside from that, life is going forward. The budget is in decent shape and we’re still under the figure that I set for development…so I might add a few more useful tools before we go to market. I have to watch the demand and the consumer’s interest over the next few months.
Thanks for your interest.
