I like the Sanken, using the rubber mount it’s good for hiding under clothing, they sound nice and natural. Trams are nice sound but I don’t like side-address mics for hiding due to clothing rustle. I have a couple Countryman EMW’s and while they’re nice for interviews they do color the sound slightly, I’m not sure about the B6. I would also recommend the Oscar Sound Tech TL-40, it’s a very small lav, maybe smaller than the B6 I use them with Hush Lavs and the Sanken rubber mounts. They sound great and they only cost about $112 for the lav, connector for your choice of transmitter, foam windscreen, and a tiny Pelican Case.

I just went through a couple months of trial and error with these guys to shake out some issue when using the Sennheiser G3 transmitters. https://www.oscarsoundtech.com/

That’s a very interesting concept, I would very much like to hear what you are producing.

Thanks for posting, I’ve been wanting to pick one up for a back up, this makes it an easy decision.

  • Hi Rodney,
I found a similar answer on jwsound.net but you make your own with the vamp clip, medical tape and so fourth. I’ve tried it and it works great. It’d just be nice to have a real tape down. I also just got the Rycote undercovers, I’ll try that out today.

BTW, my EMW only has one side with a screen it’s brand new and is also referred to as an isomax. Maybe this is a different version?

    Thanks,

  • I appreciate the repsonses but I wanted a little more specific detail on mounting. I can mount an end address lav easily because I can cover the whole thing except for the of top of the capsule with mole skin. In the case of the emw I’m not sure how you would use mole skin on it unless you cut a window for the windscreen or do you just cover the entire mic body? I could use top stick but some actors complain that it sticks too well and tears at their skin.

You’re best bet is to get a Beachtek or Juicelink mixer that can be mounted on to your camera.

I own the PSC Promix 6. It has left and right XLR outs for two cameras plus aux returns.

If you don’t want to drop the levels in over dub I would not suggest a limiter, that’s going to flatten everything out badly. I would try lightly compressing and peak normalizing to -6.

July 13, 2010 at 4:42 am in reply to: Ty or all, question about latency

My question to you would be how long are your cable runs and how many devices are chained together? Long cable runs can cause a slight delay and hopping from device to device in a chain can cause a delay, why use the beach tech at all?
