Occasionally I get a bad signal if someone sits on the transmitter or smothers it but clothing is never an issue.

The Senn G3 has a flexible antennae so its easy to tape down or just tuck in.

Honestly, I don’t know what brand the straps are, I bought them at Location Sound. If you call them they could tell you. If the ones you are looking at are not specific to a particular transmitter then they should work since the material stretches.

I’m not sure what you mean by cutting the cups of the bra, not sure why you’d do that. Yes, I use the belt clip to hang it from the bra strap in the back.

I think I misled you, I should have just said that there is a smaller strap for the leg in general. The leg strap should work for either.

    Hi Craig,
I use a womens bra strap inside the shirt, a waist strap that has a pocket for the transmitter works if they have long hair or loose clothing, there is a smaller one for the upper and lower leg. A lot of times I’ve been able to run the lav cable down a pant leg and strap it to an ankle or drop it into a boot.

The ME2 omni lav mic that comes with the G3 systems are actually pretty decent and mix well with a boom. The advantage that these mics have is the low handling noise with the mic cable it’s self, many of the “high end” mics tend to not isolate the cable tugging, rubbing, and movement from the capsule and you end up having to use more tape on the actors as they give you a nasty look. I recommend getting your techniques down on the ME2 lav first since you already have them. Some things that work is wrapping the mic capsule with a small bit of mole skin and use a small bit of tape to create a tiny bit of slack a few inches below the capsule. Also, don’t be shy about asking an actress to stuff the capsule into the top of her cleavage.

    Good luck.

Here are some things to try:

check to make sure the music sample rate is the same as in your session, that can cause issues. Known issue with older FCP versions.

try opening the music file in sound track or another audio editor on your mac to see if it plays cleanly.

try having the music exported in a regular .wav file and import that.

Pro tools had tce (time compression expansion) that let\’s you all kinds of cool stuff relative to time to your audio files. Logic pro 9 has similar tools.I\’m not sure about pc based audio apps though.

What might be an easier solution is to get a second shotgun mic plus a stereo mic bar and boom in stereo. You can use the pres in the camera and won’t have to worry about mixing, then you can monitor left and right accordingly. Simple set up.

  • Hi Mark,
Two plugins that I use are:

Digidesign BNR (broadband noise reduction), it comes as part of the DV Toolkit. Flexible and works great, kind of a wonky interface though.

Izotope RX, good interface, very clean sounding algorithms.

Usually I use one and if I don’t get the results I’m looking for I try the other and 95% of the time I get what I want out of one or the other.

    Good luck.
