Hmmm, the g-tech should be good but have you used this drive the same way before? The DV files shouldn’t be a problem, better than any compressed format. Are you using both partitions for any reason? I have heard in the past that partitioning an external drive like that can cause some weirdness but I don’t have anything to back it up. Backing up the drive and re-partitioning to a single partition on the drive may help and wouldn’t hurt. What system are you running pro tools on and what file format is your drive?

I’ve gotten DAE errors before but not this one.

Definitely drive related. What type of drive is it? Full size drive or notebook drive? Raid? USB, FW, or other?
I use an owc 2 drive raid 0 over FW with no problems.

I watched the oscars and the overall broadcast sounded very very over modulated but I thought that was probably due to the extenders regenerating the signal coming from a splitter that was feeding 4 tvs at the party I was at.

Daniel,
I used one for over 2 years and found it very reliable although a little on the cheap side compared to a 744 or 788. Invest in NP1 batteries, you can get 15 hours on 1 charge. I only had 1 complaint about timecode which I figured out was a miscommunication between the AC and myself. If you want to be very accurate use a lockit box on the R4-Pro and one the camera that way you know that you’re using absolutely perfect clocks on both devices. I did this whenever I worked with a camera that could jam timecode, especially red since they lose timecode when power gets disconnected.-Michael Martin

i have pretty sensative hearing and when i can’t use speakers i use akg k702 open back headphones. you’re ears don’t get the compression of closed back cans plus they sound very natural like listening to open air speakers. i can listen to them loud as i need to when mixing for hours without getting horrible ringing and fatigue. One comment that I’ve seen is that they need a little time to burn in but for your purposes you will not likely notice the need.

i isotope rx2 advanced and it does an excellent job. i tried wavearts denoise and sonnax products to but it does not seem to be as effective.
Thing to remember is that you will never get all the noise out but these plugins help surpress them quite well. add in room tone to mask the noise in the dialogue.

I would think so, the clips that grab onto the preamp body can be slid back and forth. Since I only use these guys for interiors and sound sometimes for stereo sfx I haven’t needed the BBG. If you live in LA you can go to Coffey Sound or Location Sound and ask them to show you the INV7 to check it out with the mic and BBG.

Not all hyper-cardioids are equal. The MKH50 is awesome with almost no handling but it’s hard to justify spending $1200 when you’ve got a perfectly good working set of mics. I’ve seen Ty Ford recommend the Audix SCX1/HC, I like Audix but have only used their handhelds.

I have owned a matched set of mk012’s for the last 10 years and have used them exclusively for interior shots with no issues for more than 3 years. I use the Rycote INV7 shockmount. The KSSM shockmounts however nice they are, are rather rigid compared to the INV7. You always need to use caution when handling a boom if you’re rough with it you’ll hear it.
I do find the Oktavas need extra gain at times you might want look into using a sound devices 302 mixer or something similar, I’ve never fed a HMC150 without using a mixer so I couldn’t tell you if the camera pre’s are weak but those tend to be the after thought of making a camera.
I have not used the AT-4053b but have heard some noisy recordings with them and similar handling issues.
