I did a project a few months ago with a HVX200 and two Canon 5ds. I did what Phil did with using the HVX at the back of house for the wide. My reasons were because it was a live show just under an hour in length. The HVX had two 32gb cards and the audio feed from the mixing board, the 5ds shot cutaways and close ups because of their shooting times and because they could match better than with the HVX. I don’t know what type of project your doing or if my reasons would apply.

    Thanks Doug,
That’s what I was thinking but wasn’t 100% sure about the 23.98 rate, better to ask now. Thanks again for the quick response and info.

I have the Chrosziel 450 based system that I’ve been using for quite a long time with my HVX200. By changing the mounting plate with a few screws and some spacers they have, all of my gear was adaptable and worked great. Their stuff is not cheap, but if you have a number of other cameras they are adaptable and can use the same follow focus, matte box, and in my case a large number of Tiffen filters.

Thanks guys, that is exactly where I needed to be. What I did find out is that my choice of fire footage was wrong. The mask doesn’t start out transparent as I wanted revealing a ring of fire…no need to get into that.
However, that is a great tutorial Stephen! I’m adding another image mask to this and getting great results by intersecting them and creating a completely different effect and a different approach to the sequence.
Thanks again for all the amazing help.

That is exactly what I’m trying now. One movie is color flames, the other named the same plus M and is the matte. it is black and white… looks like a perfect matte. The scene looks as follows:
Layer 1: actors in front of greenscreen with Primatte keyer.
Layer 2: background photo with windows cut out with masks.
Layer 3: Fire (hopefully with mate so fire looks rich and crisp)
    Layer 4: outdoor background photo.

I’m not sure the placement of the matte layer and settings. I keep re-ordering the fire and its matte and clicking through the stencil alpha modes but I just get black with background showing through or colorful flames over black. I’m not sure if I’ve imported them correctly for this task.
    Thanks for the response.

    Bob,
Well, no I didn’t fix it, but I don’t have the problem anymore. I did a re-install of just about everything, went back to OS 10.5.5 as recommended in another post, then changed my render scratch disk to another internal drive, and I haven’t had the problem once. I have a deadline this week so I’m not going to mess with success until after that. You didn’t mention what kind of drive your using, but mine is a Ciprico raid. I tend to think that it’s the culprit as John mentioned earlier in this thread. I went to the Ciprico forum and saw all the render/driver posts and decided I’ll wait for now before I tackle that. I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer right now. Good luck!

    Thanks John,

I’ve found a previous post on the Cow that suggests AJA doesn’t like OS 10.5.6 so I am re-installing a previous version right now. The raid will be my next target!
Thanks so much for the post!!!

Thanks for the help David, If you have any work-around ideas or if anybody else has anything… the fear is starting to creep in now. I’m not ruling out pilot error, in fact I’m hoping it’s something really stupid.
I’ve not let myself down in that regard before.
    Thanks again,

    David,

Thanks for the reply. I did the uninstall and then installed the latest driver from AJA. I couldn’t use my original disk because it said it was to old as I had updated (I believe the firmware) some time ago.

Unfortunately, the confetti is still there. To clarify the problem, I will render an effect ( this doesn’t matter if it’s a Magic Bullet Looks effect, a Motion project, or a simple FCP color effect that will play without rendering) the clip will play for a bit then get these hits for a second or so. I’ve been deleting the render files then re-rendering until I get a good one, only to come back later and find some “good ones” are no longer any good at all. Everything looks great, plays great, until I render.
Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    Michael

In my own response to my last post, I’ve pulled the processors, reseated the ram and now have all my ram back, however the render “confetti” image I get is still there.
