Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’ll start there. Yes, I need to figure out what I’d like to get for it and I’ll post it with pictures.
I forgot about the COW classifieds. I guess I just don’t sell t hings often enough 😉Thanks again!

WoW. With a positive attitude like that, you must be in ADVERTISING!
😉
Hi Thax!
I appreciate the jab about advertising. Maybe I should consider it 😉 I guess my less than enthusiastic attitude about it is because for the last year it has been the monkey on my back that won’t go away (and unfortunately, its demise was related to a project that was also the monkey on my back that wouldn’t go away)! I guess I didn’t hide my feelings very well 😉
Thanks for the info about Ebay. I will probably do that, but I will first post it on the COW classifieds as Rennie suggested. I think I’ll take lots of detail pix and hope that someone who might be interested in it will be able to tell from the pictures what they need to know. The funny thing is that my advertising attitude aside, it doesn’t really LOOK bad.
Thanks again for your answer!

If you can use stills, try going to http://www.istockphoto.com . They license most stills in video resolution for $1.00 each. I discovered them while working for a place with “next to zero” budgets.

Unless something new has come out, Canon told us that Sony is wet and all others (Panasonic, JVC, Maxell) are dry. You can use all Sony or everything but Sony. For those of you haven’t heard of this, changing from one type to another (wet/dry) regularly will cause buildup on the components and eventually cause the unit to prematurely fail.
When we first discovered this, I was production director at a station where three machines had to be significantly overhauled after one year. Had we not had the extended warranty, it would not have been worth the money to repair them. At the time, our equipment documentation didn’t say anything about this “detail”.
Canon engineers told us that if it is urgent to switch types from wet to dry or dry to wet that we should run a head cleaning tape in the machine before and after using the “other” type. I’d completely avoid switching even with the head cleanings as the potential damage is very expensive.
Thanks everyone for your responses!

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your answer. No, I didn’t actually intend to get them. I needed some tape to shoot one of my kids’ birthday party and I thought Maxell just changed the package. I didn’t end up needing the tape at the time, but today, when I opened it, I noticed the tape was different. Yes, it looks like a cheaper tape and that’s why I was concerned. I should have figured buying it at Wal-Mart. I probably won’t use it as I’d like to keep kid footage 😉 and I certainly wouldn’t use it in my pro gear. I hadn’t seen the ME before, but I’ll definitely look in the future.
Thanks again!

Bob and Greg,
Thanks for responding! I especially liked your story Bob. I think it demonstrates the power of the perception of the company and that’s what I was wondering about. My wife and I publish several different books including a cookbook. We found that more people buy the book when the price is higher than when we lower it. I’ve concluded that the customers’ perception of the value is partly related to the price.
In the same way, I have the flexibility of bringing in friends who are pros if I need them but I don’t have to do it if the project doesn’t support more than one person.
Thanks again for your answers! They definitely helped!

Hi David,
I appreciate the link you posted, however that link is for a user manual, which I already have. I’m looking for a schematic diagram, which apparently is part of the service manual that repair shops would have. I followed all the links relates to this camera on that page, but could not find any useful info about schematics or a service manual. Do you have any other ideas? If anyone else has an idea, I’d appreciate letting me know, too!
Thanks!
MichaelP.S. I think it’s easier to get a schematic online for a 1912 model A. 😉 (No I don’t need one of those 😉

Yes, I’ll still play with the settings, but I’ve gotten a similar result to the one you got. I used slightly higher limits but there is a lot of detail and more movement than a talking head. I got a 9.5 MB file that looked good even considering the detail/movement. I’m gonna go with it for now, but I’ll keep testing to see if I can improve the wheel 😉Thanks for testing that!
