This is a known bug that Media 100 has never bothered to fix.

It usually happens if Media 100 has been open overnight (but still rarely… so that alone won’t cause it). My guess is that some Mac cron tasks run and/or permissions change and then M100 is unable to save.

The only thing you can do is force quite out… I believe someone also suggested that you can save to an external firewire drive (or maybe a different volume) so you can at least make sure you have your most recent save point.

Do a search in this forum and you’ll find a couple other posts about this.

I was getting similar crashes ( a bit more randomly) in SW on my G5 after bring moving alpha titles from LiveType into the M100 sw title tracks. I would have to render one at a time and save… over and over again I’d crash on a title. I still don’t know why. All my titles were over video.

I was going to suggest that you try a new program with differnet media and see if you can still see the crash. But it sounds like you are narrowing it down. Good luck.

Basically it is for getting more advanced… you can make more precise audio edits in Pro Tools and there are a host of features and plugs ins that you just won’t find in the M100.

Also, we usually have a sound designer do much, much more… They add effects, fix problem issues and generally improve the overal sound design.

But yeah… Absolutely you can do all the basic mixing and EQing in the M100.

you can import it from anywhere really…

File:Import (select the type of edl)…

I haven’t done it in about a year… but I used to do it a lot. It was usually a CMX 3600 I believe.

Yeah we do something similar… I don’t know a better solution either (XML? Maybe?)

-First we make a copy of our program, then we remove all the audio levels and extend handles to all the audio clips.
-Then we export each track solo with a “sync pop” on each track at 00:59:58:00
-Bring into Pro Tools for a full mix from scratch

That’s the best we can figure…

Oh sorry… didn’t answer you other question:

When you import EDL into your program, it will populate your timeline with the entire cut (obviously with no media linked). You can then select batch digitize and you will online reel by reel. Stuff (like graphics) that you don’t have a reel for will be left unlinked, and that is where you’ll have to start recreating stuff. You’ll also likely have to remix the whole show.

Maybe I’m missing something, but aren’t you still going to have to completely re-mix all the audio of the show?

If they did a pro mix, their should at least be an audio session somewhere (probably pro-tools). Will you now have to rebuild all the music mixes and sound effects too?

And yes, the EDL will work, but you’ll have to rebuild the non-TC stuff like titles, still frames, effects rendered, etc.

Uh oh… I think this is the week I install M100HD for the first time. 😉 How will I survive?

  • I’m really sorry to hear about your loss.

To me, what the insurance company is claiming just doesn’t sound right. I’ll ask an entertainment attorney here in Los Angeles later today to see what he thinks.

You should definitely draft a strong letter with a clear explanation of the value of that work. I don’t remember off the top of my head, but I do remember having to make some choices (with regard to digital media) when choosing my insurance options for my company. They may, or may not, have addressed this type of thing in your policy.

I’ll post back if I learn anything that might help you out….

…but you should start listing all those things you lost and ALL the ways they are valuable to you and your wife.

    I do the same thing.

I create two black color layers in boris.

Crop one to be the top black bar… and one to be the bottom black bar.

Fully functional letterbox MASK not waiting… no rendering!
