May 16, 2014 at 2:12 pm in reply to: FCP 7 Sony EX1 offline online workflow Solution?BTW, this is the first of 3 projects and this is the smallest, other projects will include 120 – 150 hr footage and not exactly sure which cameras I’m using for the other projects.

May 16, 2014 at 2:03 pm in reply to: FCP 7 Sony EX1 offline online workflow Solution?Shane, is it really that straight forward? I already L&T the BPAV files to XDCAM, edit, then change sequence to HQ to deliver.
I’ve been told DO NOT edit with XDCAM especially long-form. This project has approx 100hr footage and the finished piece will be 90-minutes with a bunch of smaller segments to output. I’ll be finishing on my desktop system with much of the “offline” process edited on Laptops FW Drives.
Does this sound safe with XDCAM?
Here’s another quandary that may now be a mute point. I’m using ProxyMill to convert BPAV, GoPro and FS700 files to ProRes422 and proxy. Testing my workflow I converted a few files, import to FCP 7 and the files come in at 10fps with audio out of sync. What the heck am I doing to cause that. I’ve set the conversion in ProxyMill and files play just fine in QT but FCP7 sees and plays them at 10fps?

May 14, 2014 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Which ProRes Converter to Simultaneously make HQ & Proxy? My MPEG test was from a single long GoPro file, edited in to a 15-minuted time line with slo mo, speed ups, transitions, title tool, etc. Everything connected from proxy to HQ. I understand the reel name and tc issue and agree that workflow is full of problems.
Checking out digital rebellion now. Anyone used digital rebellion to reel name and TC.

May 14, 2014 at 10:39 am in reply to: Which ProRes Converter to Simultaneously make HQ & Proxy?I’m not throwing away GoPro reel# and TC, I’m trying to figure out how to convert and make ProRes HQ and proxy files to include reel # and TC for a offline/online workflow.

May 13, 2014 at 10:58 am in reply to: Which ProRes Converter to Simultaneously make HQ & Proxy?I did a test without reel # and TC and it worked with me manually connecting same name HQ & proxy files?
Please tell me more about batch renamer? I’ll look at resolve again.

May 12, 2014 at 6:08 pm in reply to: Which ProRes Converter to Simultaneously make HQ & Proxy? After spending more time researching rather than just doing it manually I’ve landed on MPEG Streamclip, make HQ’s then proxy with same name using batch and manually setting where files are saved. Need to handoff proxy files today.
Did a test to see numerous clips maintain name, edited with effects, transitions, make offline, connect to either codec and render and play in a proxy and HQ timeline.
Kinda of a pain, but works. No TC and no Reel #? Are there issues I should be concerned with later in the workflow?
I searched for Resolve, Resolve video compression, Resolve ProRes and found Black Magic products, but no immediate info on using Resolve to compress?
MPEG cranks about 1:1 on my system, Compressor not as fast, slow process to bring in many hours with trim in/out.
I’m looking for more details regarding Resolve, Compressor Droplets or naming convention, any thing else?

May 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm in reply to: Which ProRes Converter to Simultaneously make HQ & Proxy?yes, linking is the problem. I’ve used older compressor before as I stumbled my way through it compressing simple basic ops.
I bought new compressor and of course it outputs what I need and places in each folder or I drag out of Source to appropriate folder no biggie. It also names each file with HQ or proxy name in the clip file name so relinking will have to be manual for each clip.
I need to learn more about how to have each clip name without the HQ or proxy added to the name or find an app that will let me control naming while doing the other task mentioned.

No background task processing.
I’m now attempting to delete a compound clip, I made this when I removed DSLR Camera audio and added clean audio from recorder. When I attempt to move it to trash it reports, “Clips in Use Final Cut Pro Trial cannot delete multicam or compound clips that are in use”. I’m not using this clip, it has incorrect audio mixed with camera mic, my screw up. In this case the Compound Clip is not open in a timeline or I guess we now say Lane?
I opened the Compound Clip in a Lane and deleted its contents (video/audio) and it continues to give me the same message. I’ve tried searching what the message means with no luck.
My original question remains, How do you close an open project or timeline or Lane?
I’m also curious about the lack of a search window when Importing media. My projects can tend to be large with hundreds hours of footage, not the project I’m working on now, and when I need to import a single clip its much easier to search for it rather than search through the multitude of clips.

I can delete other projects, the ones I can not delete report they are “in use” and I’ve noted they are open in the timeline. I can not figure out how to close the open time line or what it means when they report they “can not be deleted because timeline is in use”.
I’m just getting started with FCPX and watching the basic tutorials, I don’t know what I don’t know yet. There is definitely a few things going on that are different in tutorials
