It shouldn’t be. I posted this same issue on the Avid forums months ago when I ran into it and it seems to be intermittent. I was having issues on Symphony 6 but upgrading to 6.0.3.2 fixed it. Other people never had the issue on v6.0.

Have you tried new user settings? That might fix it.

What version are you on? I had some strangeness with Symphony 6.0 where subclipping didn’t highlight the clip name, but it seems to be fixed in 6.0.3.2. Check if there are any patches available for the version your on.

This is a piece of cake in Photoshop if you learn to use data sets and have access to Excel (or OpenOffice).

If you’re handy in After Effects you can buy CompsFromSpreadsheet or run the 7 day trial for this project – buy it if you need to use it again after that. It allows you to do basically the same thing as data sets in Photoshop – make an Excel sheet, save it as tab delimited, and automate After Effects. I used it yesterday to change a phone number and tag on a commercial – generated 55 spots in a couple of minutes. Here’s a link to it (watch the tutorial – it’s well done):

If you choose to import a project and select just a sequence(s) it will recognize any media assets you already have in your project and will link your imported sequence to existing media assets (and import any assets in the sequence not already in your project).

But like Alex said, if you import the entire project it will duplicate media. You have to import sequences only to prevent that – at least until CSNext or whatever it’s called comes out. It’s supposed to be addressed in it.

You can’t update a video on YouTube. You can delete an old video and upload a new one, or just upload a new one, but you can’t “replace” a video that’s online. So you are, in fact, uploading two separate master files that are different from one another. It’s very much not a living document in the way you’re describing.

Vimeo allows you to replace a video, but YouTube doesn’t.
