[Robin S. Kurz] “Just as I finished shooting a job (3rd) on an iPhone X in 4K with an DJI Osmo 2. The client was ecstatic over the results. Go figure.”

Why did you decide to go with the iPhone X as the camera, and what other cameras were being considered for this shoot? And what type of project was it? Corporate video, commercial, preroll for web, documentary/film?

April 15, 2018 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Where is ProRes RAW

ProRes RAW is an acquisition codec. It’s only available in a few select places right now – like from the Atomos recorders: https://www.atomos.com/proresraw

It’s not available to export to.

    You could try this:

    https://aeroquartet.com/movierepair/download

It’s not a free service, but it’s free to use to see if anything is recoverable. If it is, you send your files to them, they fix it and send it back.

You can’t export an .r3d from FCPX. I’m not sure any program can.

And RedcineX is now RedcineX Pro. https://www.red.com/products/redcine-x-pro

Do you have to upgrade to High Sierra? Given the option, I’d recommend going to Sierra instead. I’m on High Sierra and have had more hard freezes and crashes than I ever had on Sierra.

[Bill Davis] “Those who have less prior conditioning – will simply aporoach the new tools as they are and feel “this is how it works” and not really notice any issues.

If they use the color wheels and get used to those they’re going to be in for a bad time if they ever move to any another system, or use any third party plugin with wheels!

[Bill Davis] “Honestly, spending time using finder folders for asset organization is a wee bit contrary to how X is designed, IMO.

Folders are useful in a more broad post workflow, especially if you’re sending out for color, VFX, sound, etc… or working on shared storage. Plus, they’re easily read by humans, without having to dive into an NLE to make sense of them.

[Bill Davis] “Literally, if you just toss ALL your video, audio and graphics assets in one big folder called “Sources” (or something similar) – located on the root level of a drive – then just exported XMLs to describe your edits in progress and emailed those back and forth as you work – X will sync things just fine. “

Is this how you organize your assets? Everything goes loose into a folder, with no subfolders for Footage, ACam, BCam, Music, Graphics, etc?

January 16, 2018 at 2:49 pm in reply to: Determining the plugin effect

Is the effect not listed in the Inspector when you select a clip?

EDIT: You could download X-FX Handler. Export an XML of your sequence and import that into X-FX Handler and see if it lists all the effects you used.
