If I understand correctly, park the playhead at the problem in your sequence and match frame which should load the source clip with the playhead at that frame which should give you the timecode you’re looking for.

If you select the clip and go to the effects controls, you can draw a matte in the opacity section using the pen tool.

I realize this is 6 months after your post, but I am doing some research cause a client just purchased HMC150. I’ve got fcp 6 on a dual2.5 gig G% and it certainly exports prores without a problem. Is this an issue of transcoding on log and transfer you’re talking about?
