avchd on G5?
I’ve been looking at posts, maybe too many now, and I can’t find a definitive answer on whether I can edit footage from the HMC-150 on my G5. I keep running into posts where someone says, ‘yeah, but you have to be on an intel to edit avchd’. true, false? Can’t I transcode to ProRes and edit that? I work all the time with ProRes on my G5.

ProRes cannot be encoded on a non-intel machine. If you want HMC150 editing with Final Cut Pro you would need to upgrade your system.

I realize this is 6 months after your post, but I am doing some research cause a client just purchased HMC150. I’ve got fcp 6 on a dual2.5 gig G% and it certainly exports prores without a problem. Is this an issue of transcoding on log and transfer you’re talking about?
