This is a NTSC project. I’ll pull the properties on some of the clips I’ve been using. Some of them come from the hard drive I’m recording to (Focus DR-HD100) are DV in .mov format and then some of the pre-recorded clips I might use are .mov with the h.264 codec. Both come out looking the same way.

I can record to the Focus hard drive in DV with the .avi format and pull it to my PC and it looks great so I don’t think the hard drive is the issue. My PC is a laptop and quite old and the Mac saves me half the time in render and process time. That’s one of the reasons we switched to the Mac along with some other creative software. However, it’s been quite the struggle so far!!

Thanks for the thoughts and let me know what you think with the above info. What project settings would cause conflicts?

Now that you mention it, I believe there was. At the time I thought it was odd because normally it’s ready to go, not requiring any rendering.

I think that the red was there regardless of the clips I brought in but I’m not positive.

    Your thoughts?

Most of the .mov files we have shot ourselves using a prosumer camera, either a JVC-GYHD250U (but shooting in SD) or from a Canon GL1 model. I have a hard drive capture set up in .mov format and I pull from there.

I have also taken pre-produced .mov files that I know are quality and used them. The original footage looks great, but once I pull it into PPro and then export it, the quality is quite degraded.

Let me know if you need any additional info.

I think our DVR might do that – it’s the JVC SR-DVM700 which can capture DV direct to the hard drive. I’m not sure, however, if I can pull that from the hard drive directly to my editing computer.

    Justin,

The camera is currently hooked up to the DVR and then to a switcher in case we want to show something live on screen. However, we do very little IMAG if any and this won’t be a strategy for us in the future.

I do not have access to the BRHD50 deck. We will only be shooting SD for awhile – no HD in the near future.

Thanks for any input you might have!
