I’m not sure about older versions, but you can do it in After Effects CC using ‘Layer > Layer Styles > Inner Glow / Inner Shadow’.

It took me a bit of searching in After Effects CC, but you can do it using ‘Layer > Layer Styles > Inner Shadow’.
