Are these features, inner glow and inner shadow, availbe anywhere in AE? I’ve been searching in AE 6.5 for a while, and I’m starting to think that I might need a third party plug-in for this feature.

I could have sworn I’ve seen these in previous versions of AE though!

The funny thing is, there are a number of effects that mimic Photoshop’s layer effects, but the only way to have them show up is by importing a Photoshop file…
There is no way of applying the glow, bevel, etc. effects direcly to a layer.

They don’t work exactly the same as in Photoshop anyway, and really limit your options.

I think it’s best to recreate the either by precomposing or by stacking some filters together:

so here’s a way to mimic inner glow/inner shadow using after effects filters:

    On your layer:
    – Drop Shadow: (Opacity 100%, Shadow Only, other parameters to taste)
    – Invert: Alpha
    – CC Composite: Stencil Alpha, use its opacity as the opacity of your inner glow or drop.
    – Fill, use this to force the color of your glow
    – CC Composite: (deselect RGB only) use ‘screen’ for a glow, ‘multiply’ for a drop, or ‘behind’

I’m not sure about older versions, but you can do it in After Effects CC using ‘Layer > Layer Styles > Inner Glow / Inner Shadow’.
