Yes, you are correct, I am starting with uncompressed media. I am in a Decklink standard 4×3 10 bit project. I understand that my image when compressed to MPEG2 via media encoder will not look as good as when played back through the decklink. However there are two points to this issue. First, I am seeing a very compressed image in the project window (it looks like it is at low quality, and when I change quality -a nothing happens). Secondly, when I encode to MPEG 2 I’m getting very noticeable softness and interlacing artifacts similar to what I’m seeing in the project window. This is what is leading me to think there might be something happening in the project itself. I’ve tried bringing the same Decklink AVI into a standard Adobe NTSC project, and I’m seeing the same artifacts in the project window. It seems this is what is being encoded as well. It’s a really strange issue.

No that doesn’t really make sense. If I’m using a rendered clip that’s imported into the project as opposed to the dynamic link, then it’s useless. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying. Just seems Adobe needs to work on it.

Hi All,
Thanks for the responses. The program in question is about 4 minutes. I’ve seen the same with shorter videos as well – Only in Premiere Pro 2.0 (we never saw this problem in v1.5). All of the material is LF. I’ve seen this with stuff rendered in AE. All of the renderings are field rendered LF out of AE. I will test a straight capture of interlaced footage in premiere tomorrow. As far as the screen capture, I’m getting this on my NTSC monitor, there is no way to do a screen capture. I’ll be back in the office tomorrow, and I’ll try to get more specifics on the settings I used.

I’ll check that. Interestengly, just to get it out, I changed the N Frames (I think it was that 1) from 3 to 2, reencoded in Premiere, and it was gone.

Hi Vincent,
The distortion I’m seeing is mainly around text edges, or graphic lines. It looks like field mush. It looks like the only 1 field is being used. I know that the footage I’m using is lower field, and that is the field choice I used. I also tried using upper field, thinking I’ve seen the encoder have issues with reversing the field order in past versions. This issue is definitely new to PP2.0. In PP 1, the fields were in fact reversed, and I encoded upper field, but that did look great. Now in PP 2.0 Progressive seems to look the best, and there seems to be no difference in the output if I switch from lf to uf (this part really makes no sense).

Hi,
It could have something to do with your video card. I had a similar problem a while back. What card are you using, and has the codec been updated recently possibly?
When I was using a bluefish444 card, any dissolves or titles would have what you’re describing when I rendered them. It turned out to be the new driver I had loaded had a bug in it, reversing the field order on render….try that?
