Bit depth (24 vs 16) doesn’t affect sync. It sounds like you were relying on the sync accuracy of the DVCams internal crystal and that should be fine for long runs providing the audio recording system was also accurately clocked.
What was the audio recorded to and is the drift constantly in one direction. If so then it is a matter varispeeding the original mix files by the required amount.

If the conform station is FCP then use Media Manager to create an offline version of your final cut changing the codec to match the hi rez. Reconnect to the hi rez media. As the file/ clip names are the same then it should reconnect without complication. I would avoid an EDL if possible. XML is also worth looking at.

Given that EDL’s are a product of an ancient age of computing, I doubt that it CMX formats will support anything but uppers. Try other EDL formats like Sony. Even then you need to be aware that whoever is reading your EDL must be able to read that format. Thats why mostly I use CMX 3600. Bog standard.
What is the problem with the case anyway?

April 4, 2007 at 7:50 am in reply to: Problem with importing .aiff files from Pro Tools HD to Final Cut Pro 5.1.2Doesn’t sound normal at all. What does FCP think the sample rate is? After importing have a look at the clip properties. I am curious if the aif file has the sample rate flag set to something different to 48Khz. If so then I wonder if Pro Tools is setting something wrong in the file.

I import aifs from Pyramix all the time and they are always correct legth. I am working in PAL so perhaps it is an NTSC thing although .2% is more than pullup/ pulldown frequecies for DF non Drop.

Stage mics are usually dynamics and not really the sort of mic that is used for VO. I suggest a small mixer that can add gain and also let other devices be sent to the iMic USB adaptor. Check brands like Behringher

this might be all you need

Reading between the lines Charlie, Billy says his preset is firewire NTSC 720 x 480 so there is nothing to indicate this is an HDV issue at all.

iMic is just a USB interface, which can take analog mic or line input signals and convert them to digital. What mic are you plugging in to this adaptor? If you don’t have enough gain (which is typical of dynamic mics) you will need to put a mixer or pre amp in line with gain control to get a decent input level. Be careful not to go the other way and overload the input of the iMic.

You have trashed preferences? We are left to assume that you are connecting a DV camera not HDV and that it was working perfectly with the same preset prior to upgrade. If this is not the case then please elaborate. Any details on how you upgraded? Just installed over 4.5 or a clean install?

April 3, 2007 at 8:52 am in reply to: OK so I gather FCP media manager is a no goer!Just need to add that there can be a problem if you have nests in your sequence. Media Manager will make you load all the media in a nest just for a small part of that nest that may be used in the final edit. So make sure any nests are un-nested first.
The latest vers 5.1.4 also seems to manage speed change shots properly although a big time lapse will require the loading of heaps of media.
